Senior Accountant

Nottingham, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

You've balanced ledgers, ensured compliance, and guided month-end closes--but lately, you might feel boxed in by rigid protocols, limited growth, or long hours that leave no time for life outside work. What if you could step into a role that gives you the autonomy to shape processes, clear visibility on your career path, and time to enjoy Nottingham's vibrant culture?

What You'll Gain (Beyond a Paycheck)

Work-Life Balance That Works for You:

Imagine finishing on time to catch a play at the Theatre Royal or unwind at Wollaton Park before dinner. In this role, you'll benefit from flexible start and end times, so you can manage personal commitments without sacrificing performance.

Career Clarity & Progression:

You deserve more than vague promises. Here, you'll co-create a development plan, whether that means moving toward a Finance Manager role or specializing in a particular accounting discipline. Quarterly career reviews ensure you always know the next steps.

Influence & Ownership:

Too often, accounting is treated as a back-office function. Here, your insights will drive real change. You'll partner with department heads to streamline reporting, implement best practices, and deliver meaningful financial guidance rather than just crunching numbers.

Welcoming, Collaborative Culture:

You won't be "just another accountant." You'll join a team that celebrates successes, supports each other through challenges, and values open communication. Whether it's sharing a coffee in the office cafe or hosting casual brainstorming lunches, you'll feel part of something bigger.

About the Organisation & Its Values

Based in the heart of Nottingham, our client believes accounting isn't about number-crunching in isolation. It's about enabling smarter decisions. Their culture is built on:

Transparency & Trust:

Information flows freely; you're never left in the dark.

Collaboration & Respect:

Every voice matters. When you succeed, the team succeeds.

Continuous Learning:

Mistakes are growth opportunities. You'll have access to training, courses, and real-world projects that keep you ahead of regulatory changes and industry best practices.
Whether you've been a Senior Accountant in practice or industry, you'll find your values aligned: a desire to make an impact, support colleagues, and maintain balance.

What We're Looking For (In Partnership With You)

If you bring:

Strong Technical Expertise:

You've managed statutory accounts, prepared P&L forecasts, and navigated IFRS or UK GAAP standards with confidence.

Attention to Detail & Analytical Mindset:

You spot discrepancies before they become issues and can translate data into actionable insights.

Collaborative Spirit & Coaching Ability:

You've mentored junior staff or trainees, creating an environment where questions are welcomed and everyone learns together.

Proactive Communication:

Whether you're reporting to stakeholders or guiding colleagues, you present complex information clearly and constructively.
Then you'll be supported with:

Tailored Development Plans:

From continuing professional education (ACCA/CIMA) to leadership workshops, you can build the skills that matter most to you.

Mentorship & Guidance:

You'll have a dedicated mentor and access to senior finance leaders, ensuring you never navigate a challenge alone.

Competitive Compensation & Benefits:

A market-rate salary, private healthcare contributions, pension matching, and generous holiday allowance mean you can focus on both your career and your life outside the office.

Your Role, Reimagined

As Senior Accountant, you'll:

Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Prepare management accounts and financial reports that guide strategic decision-making. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Sales, Operations, HR) to drive budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives. Mentor and train junior accountants, fostering a supportive environment where questions are encouraged, and learning is continuous. Identify process improvements, whether implementing new accounting software, streamlining reconciliations, or enhancing internal controls to make everyone's job smoother.
You'll have the autonomy to refine processes and embed best practices, knowing that your recommendations carry weight and lead to tangible business improvements.
