Financial Control is a key function within our Enabling Functions Finance team. The team is split to support the different service lines with Deloitte. The primary function of the team is to ensure our reported figures have integrity and are a true and fair reflection of the financial position of the business. Accordingly, the team is responsible for the coordination and successful completion of the month end close and ensuring appropriate financial controls being in place. The team provide advice to the business on the application and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, standards, and controls.

We are looking for a highly skilled Finance professional to join our team of Financial Controllers.

Working closely with the Business and our Business Finance team, you will gain a high level of understanding of opportunities and challenges within the business in order to deliver effective financial controls and technical advice, to strengthen the internal financial control environment and enable better decision making. For the role to be effective you will need to build strong relationships with all stakeholders based on trust and impact.

  • Supporting the month end financial close process, reviewing and investigating account balances and preparing associated adjustments or journals
  • Owning key processes and standards across Financial Control to drive ongoing improvement and consistent best practice
  • Lead on preparing balance sheet reconciliation and issue resolution
  • Liaising and collaborating with other members of the internal finance team and the business, including Financial Control team in Global Finance Services (GFS)
  • Develop trust and build strong relationships with practitioners, and be a key point of contact on financial control matters
  • Work effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution
  • Financial & system housekeeping activities to maintain strong financial controls
  • Supporting external audit process and managing queries from our external auditors
  • Ad hoc analysis and investigation

You will be able to build solid relationships with different stakeholders and possess strong financial controls experience, your questioning mind will offer the opportunity to assess existing processes and look for efficiencies and improvements.

Ideally, candidates will have most or all of the below experience, although we will also consider exceptional candidates who do not meet all of the below criteria:
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in their work
  • Proactive and has a continuous process improvement mindset
  • Relevant accounting experience within a finance department
  • Currently studying towards or planning to undertake a recognised Accounting qualification
  • An interest in Management Accounting and a desire to progress with a career in Finance
  • Positive can-do approach, with a passion for personal development and improvement
  • Inquisitive with aptitude for problem solving
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently under deadline pressures, e.g. month end, year-end
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment as well as work independently with self-direction
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with stakeholders
  • Experience in a financial controller role or similar is preferred but not essential
  • Experience of working in a professional services organisation is preferred but not essential
  • Experience of using SAP preferred but not essential

Location: Your home office will be Milton Keynes or Birmingham though hybrid working arrangements are in place.
