As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will take a lead role in supporting vulnerable children and young people within a residential care setting. You will act as a role model to junior staff, contribute to care planning, ensure high standards of safeguarding and wellbeing, and help create a nurturing environment that promotes healing, independence, and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people aged 8-18
Take a lead role in shift planning and overseeing junior staff
Act as a key worker, developing strong, trusting relationships with specific children
Monitor and evaluate care plans in line with individual needs and regulatory standards
Support children through challenging behaviour using trauma-informed approaches
Administer medication and manage health appointments as required
Keep accurate and timely records (daily logs, incidents, reports for external professionals)
Liaise with social workers, schools, therapists, and families to support multi-agency plans
Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times
Participate in recruitment, training, mentoring, and supervision of new staff
Essential Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years' experience in a children's residential care setting
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Strong knowledge of safeguarding, trauma, and child development
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
Excellent communication and decision-making skills
Resilience, compassion, and a calm, consistent approach
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with individuals and their families.
Ability to develop and follow care plans that meet individual needs.
A valid driving licence is preferred for transporting individuals when necessary.
Proficiency in IT systems for record keeping and communication purposes.
