About the Role
We are seeking an
experienced Senior Container Transport Planner
to join our growing container haulage operation. This is a senior, hands-on role suited to someone who
lives and breathes container transport
, understands the pressures of port operations, and takes real pride in running an efficient, compliant, and high-performing planning desk.
This role is
not entry-level
. You must have proven experience planning containers within UK ports and be confident managing drivers, customers, and day-to-day operational challenges in a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and manage daily container movements from UK ports (including imports, exports, and repositioning)
Allocate work efficiently across drivers, vehicles, and trailers
Liaise with ports, customers, depots, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations
Proactively manage delays, issues, and last-minute changes
Monitor driver hours, compliance, and utilisation
Ensure high service levels are maintained at all times
Work closely with management to improve planning efficiency and performance
Maintain accurate records using transport management systems
What We're Looking For
Essential:
Significant experience in
container transport planning
(UK ports experience required)
Strong understanding of port operations, driver hours, and transport compliance
Confident decision-maker who can work under pressure
Excellent communication skills with drivers and customers
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, reactive environment
Desirable:
Experience planning from major ports such as London Gateway, Felixstowe, or Southampton
Previous senior or lead planner experience
Experience supporting or overseeing a planning team
