You will also work with team leaders to develop new product and service ideas, taking into consideration the impact this will have on the broader organisation. Building relationships with existing customers, new customers, potential partners and collaborators will therefore also be essential. And you will also take responsibility for the performance of your team - motivating them to do better, carrying out their reviews, developing their potential and encouraging them to work together and model NPL\'s values.

About You

Are you interested in developing your leadership skills in a growing scientific research environment?

At NPL we are looking for a Senior Delivery Manager to support the expansion of the Time and Frequency department by managing a portfolio of projects and the resources required to successfully deliver these.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a portfolio of projects to time, cost, and quality in a safe manner. You will possess a strategic mind, working with teams of Scientists, Engineers, and key Stakeholders (both internal and external) to develop project opportunities aligned to the departmental growth strategy.

You will be part of the group\'s Operational Leadership team and must be able to build strong relationships across the organisation. You will ensure the teams can operate smoothly, ensuring risks and issues are identified at the earliest opportunity and are mitigated/dealt with, escalating, and reporting when appropriate.

In this role, you will enjoy:

  • Managing a portfolio of projects, delivering to NPL\'s customers to a very high standard of quality
  • Providing operational leadership to a group/team, ensuring the team is motivated and clear on what needs to be delivered and are given the tools needed to do this
  • Using proactive planning to ensure that appropriate resources (inclusive of staff and facilities) are in place for current and future project delivery, working with suppliers to secure required materials ahead of time
  • Building new revenue streams by working closely with a team of expert scientists, product managers and commercial teams
  • Developing strong relationships with key Stakeholders (both externally and across the organisation) to ensure successful delivery
  • Identifying and monitoring key performance indicators for the team, taking proactive action when performance is deviating from expectations
  • Ensuring that all work, either your own or members of your team, is delivered safely
You will have:
  • A background in Service Delivery and/or Project Management
  • A Project Management or Service Management qualification would be advantageous
  • A technical degree in a relevant discipline, such as Physics/Engineering, is helpful though not essential
  • You understand how to manage project budgets
  • Line management experience is advantageous though not essential
