We\'re looking for an exceptional Senior DevOps Engineer - IAMS to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Senior DevOps Engineer - IAMS you will work a hybrid pattern and will be on site at Exeter HQ one day per month. You can choose to work more frequently in our state-of-the-art office if you\'d prefer. As our Senior DevOps Engineer - IAMS, your starting salary will be \xc2\xa338838.00. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minimum. Our 2022-25 pay award means the salary will increase to \xc2\xa341725.00 from 1st April 2024, and you will be able to progress towards \xc2\xa345257.00 over time.

In addition you will be paid \xc2\xa36000.00 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. You will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2022 until March 2024 in your monthly pay whilst performing this role.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to \xc2\xa359757.00 annually, which includes basic salary, market supplement, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Job Purpose

A Day in the Life of a IAMS Senior DevOps Engineer:

We work flexibly and try to adhere to core hours of 10am - 4pm. We start the day with a stand up to discuss what we are working on and any blockers we may have and then get stuck into our tasks for the day.

Our custom IAMS solution is used by thousands of users across the Met Office and our customers. We employ Azure, AWS and ServiceNow as identity providers, for CI/ CD, workflows, testing and more. The tasks you pick up from the Jira board will be varied and will provide opportunities to master multiple technologies.

As a Senior IAMS DevOps engineer, you will architect and implement novel solutions to complex identity challenges and deliver them to production whilst providing technical mentorship to junior colleagues and the development teams of consuming services.

Identity and Access Management (IAM) extends far beyond a pane in the AWS console for us. Our team are experts in identity from on-premise to the cloud, from Azure to AWS, from SAML to OIDC, from MFA to verified ID. We are experts in the technologies we use and we are experts in the business problems we solve.

Our team actively participates and contributes to various Agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, refinement, and retrospectives. As a senior member of the team you will have the opportunity to lead the team through technical refinement sessions and assist the lead developer in shaping the future of our service. By engaging in open communication and embracing a culture of shared ownership, you will play a vital role in fostering a positive and productive work environment that thrives on innovation, learning, and growth.

Our team takes ownership of and resolves support issues and tasks quickly and efficiently. This includes responding to alerts, troubleshooting and resolving incidents, and coordinating with other teams to ensure the resilience of our production systems.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities * Experience and drive in solving complex technical problems, often within the constraints of an operational environment.
  • Experience in developing with high-level programming languages such as Python or JavaScript to write testable and maintainable code.
  • Expert knowledge of CI/ CD pipelines and DevOps toolchains to automate application build, testing and deployment.
  • Demonstrable experience of development with large scale identity providers such as Azure AD/ B2C, Okta, Auth0 etc.
  • Strong communication skills with evidence of an organised and structured approach to your work and ability to work within a team environment.
  • Expert knowledge and experience of AWS and/ or Azure Cloud services.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Experience in building applications on AWS utilising Serverless architecture.

Relevant certifications in Azure, AWS or ServiceNow.

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/ 7/ 365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation. GOLD
