As demand for clean energy and decarbonisation accelerates, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer with proven experience in commercial renewables to lead detailed design and technical delivery across solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and hybrid energy projects.

Purpose of the Role



Lead the end-to-end electrical design process for commercial renewable energy systems, ensuring all designs meet technical, commercial and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities



Lead electrical design for solar PV installations (typically 50 kW, 4 MW+), battery storage systems, EV charging and off-grid hybrid power systems. Undertake site surveys and technical assessments, verifying assumptions on load, earthing, protection and grid connection requirements. Produce full design documentation including single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, protection settings and construction drawings. Carry out detailed electrical calculations. Managing DNO grid-connection applications and manage correspondence with network operators. Specify major electrical components and equipment, ensuring compliance with BS 7671, ENA Engineering Recommendations, IEC standards and CDM Regulations. Coordinate closely with our manufacturing and installation teams to ensure seamless transition from design to build. Provide technical support during installation and commissioning, resolving design-related queries and ensuring as-built accuracy. Review third-party or subcontractor designs, providing formal technical sign-off. Support tender and pre-construction activities with outline designs, cost estimates and technical input.

Required Qualifications and Experience



Minimum seven years electrical design experience, with at least four years in commercial solar PV. Strong working knowledge of BS 7671, ENA G98 / G99 / G100, grid interconnection principles and electrical protection design. Experience producing manufacturer-ready design packs and managing formal technical approvals. Competent in liaising with DNOs, consultants and main contractors on design and compliance matters. Degree or HND in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (Chartered Engineer status or working towards preferred). ECS or CSCS card and 18th Edition (BS 7671) desirable. Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide when required.
