Job Summary



We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SHO (Senior House Officer) to join the Psychiatry team at

Various roles in different sites - Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, Haringey

within North London NHS Trust. The postholder will play a key role in the assessment, treatment, and management of patients with mental health conditions across inpatient and/or community settings, under supervision of a Consultant Psychiatrist.

Key Responsibilities



Provide medical care to psychiatric patients under consultant supervision. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments including mental state examinations and risk assessments. Formulate management plans and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings. Participate in daily ward rounds and handovers. Manage psychiatric emergencies under supervision. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust policies. Liaise with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals regarding care planning and progress. Contribute to teaching, supervision, and mentoring of medical students or junior colleagues (if applicable). Participate in the on-call rota as per departmental requirements.

Clinical Duties



Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team including psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, and social workers. Undertake physical health monitoring of psychiatric inpatients where applicable. Ensure that all care is delivered in accordance with NICE guidelines and Trust policies. Escalate clinical concerns to senior colleagues in a timely and appropriate manner.

Education and Training



Participate in regular educational activities, including CPD sessions, case conferences, and journal clubs. Engage with clinical supervision and annual appraisal processes. Support audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Person SpecificationQualifications



Essential

: MBBS or equivalent medical degree

Desirable

: MRCPsych Part 1

GMC Registration



Essential

: Full registration with a license to practise

Desirable

: Section 12 Approval

Experience



Essential

: At least 6 months post-foundation experience in Psychiatry

Desirable

: Previous NHS Psychiatry experience

Skills



Essential

: Strong communication, clinical reasoning, and teamwork skills

Desirable

: Teaching or audit experience

Other



Essential

: Right to work in the UK

Desirable

: Interest in career progression within Psychiatry
