Job Summary:



The South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is seeking a motivated and compassionate

Senior House Officer (SHO)

to join our multidisciplinary mental health team. The SHO will provide psychiatric care to patients across inpatient, community, and liaison settings under the supervision of experienced consultants and registrars.

Key Responsibilities:



Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, mental state examinations, and risk assessments. Participate in care planning, review meetings, and ward rounds as part of a multidisciplinary team. Prescribe psychotropic medications and monitor their effects, with appropriate supervision. Maintain accurate and timely medical records and contribute to CPA (Care Programme Approach) documentation. Liaise with primary care teams, social services, community mental health teams (CMHTs), and other agencies. Support patients and families with information, psychoeducation, and referrals to services. Participate in on-call rota covering psychiatric emergencies (with consultant support). Engage in regular supervision, reflective practice, and learning opportunities within the Trust. Contribute to teaching sessions, audits, service development, and clinical governance activities.

Qualifications & Requirements:



MBBS or equivalent medical degree. Full GMC registration with a license to practice in the UK. Completion of Foundation Year 1 and 2 (or equivalent clinical experience). Experience in psychiatry is desirable but not essential. Eligibility to work in the UK.

Interest in psychiatry and mental health service delivery. Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork and holistic care. Awareness of safeguarding, mental health legislation (e.g., MHA 1983), and NICE guidelines. Ability to work effectively under supervision and independently when required.

Pay: From 45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
