We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel Equities and Securities Financing.

In this role you will:

  • Assist the lead lawyer for Equities in Europe with the delivery of expert legal advice and the management of legal risk across Equities and Securities Financing in the Markets and Securities Services business covering a variety of products and wrappers (including OTC, structured notes, repo and stock loan) such as equity financing transactions, cash equities and equity derivatives (including market access transactions) to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by the area of coverage are identified, reported and mitigated.
  • Act as trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner to Global Banking & Markets (GBM)
  • Drafting, reviewing and/or negotiating relevant contracts and related transaction documentation.
  • Identifying new legal, regulatory and market developments that can affect business activities, and educate our business teams on how these developments may affect their business.
  • Maintaining and developing positive and professional working relationships with business managers, stakeholders and the Global Legal function
Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements
  • Qualified Lawyer with knowledge and experience of equity derivatives and securities financing is essential
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills and will have demonstrated the ability to take initiative and apply good commercial and legal judgment
  • Ability to handle a diverse range of issues, deal with new or unexpected situations and work under pressure in a high-volume fast paced environment with immediate issues from many different business lines
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to identify core legal risk issues and communicate these effectively to the business, and strong inter-personal skills
  • A collaborative teammate, but also a self-starter who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial drive
The base location for this role is London, UK.
