Since Chris Blackwell first started Island Records in Jamaica in 1959, it has remained one of the world\xe2\x80\x99s most legendary record labels and a coveted destination for new and established artists across genres. Today, Island is home to a varied roster across the US and UK. It\xe2\x80\x99s unique ethos has provided the platform for launching some of the most pioneering and influential global artists from across the musical spectrum, including Bob Marley, U2, Grace Jones, Cat Stevens, Amy Winehouse, Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Catfish & The Bottlemen, The Specials, Sparks, Dermot Kennedy, Sigrid, MEDUZA, Jamie Cullum, Hozier and Ben Howard. Artists joining the Island UK roster in recent years include FLO, ArrDee, Dylan, Nia Archives, Unknown T, James Hype, easylife, The Lathums, Jazmin Bean, Yard Act, Sam Tompkins and Lola Young. From the US, the Island UK team work with some of the biggest global superstars on the planet, including Drake, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Post Malone.

The B Side: Skills & Experience

Marketing:

Be Creative

  • Plan multi-platform advertising campaigns, to effectively utilise the budgets and their key performance indicators
  • Devise effective and innovative content lead digital campaigns in conjunction with the digital marketing team, across all channels for effective and progressive audience development and conversion
  • Thinking creatively outside the realms of the day to day for opportunities and moment lead marketing, especially, and more often than not, in the absence of any international acts being in market
Be Strategic
  • Report chart metrics and key performance indicators across projects
  • Oversee/ project manage all elements of the campaign to create bespoke and nimble strategies across each artist/project
  • Responsible for individual artist budgets in line with the agreed forecasts
  • Understanding/ assimilating multiple levels of data to inform strategy \xe2\x80\x93 use of tools to measure successes and challenges of track/ album performance
  • Ensure all information is accurately and urgently communicated to all departments regarding release plans, changes, developments, growth
  • Be prepared to adapt job, role and requirements to suit an ever-changing music landscape
Be collaborative
  • Work closely with the label and team beyond \xe2\x80\x93 A&R/Content/Digital/Press/Promotions/Sales/ International/ Streaming to deliver connected and cutting-edge strategies across the business
  • Work with digital and the central insight team to plan and execute regular audience research to inform campaign planning, timing, excellence and longevity
  • Work closely with the commercial team to undertake operational and creative responsibility for partner activations - marketing and editorial
Label Relations:
  • Responsibility for ensuring Island UK\xe2\x80\x99s communications and relations with our key international partners (with particular emphasis on our US label partners \xe2\x80\x93 Republic Records & Island US) are maintained at a high level, for both \xe2\x80\x9cincoming\xe2\x80\x9d priority international projects from our partners and \xe2\x80\x98\xe2\x80\x99outgoing\xe2\x80\x9d priority Island UK projects
  • Plan, initiate and help execute Island\xe2\x80\x99s International Strategy, including implementing and overseeing label visits & showcases, in close liaison with Steve Pitron \xe2\x80\x93 SVP, Island Records & Promotions. Travel opportunities likely.
  • Lead the marketing campaigns on select incoming projects from Republic Records & Island US
  • Chair the weekly Republic & Island US calls
  • Work with our Island UMR/Catalogue lead regarding international resurgent catalogue tracks
  • A responsibility to be across all international releases & communications - even when not leading on projects
  • Lead the marketing strategy & communications across several Non-US international artists & projects
Person Specification
  • Passion for music across a broad range of genres, including especially pop, rap/hip hop, dance/electronic, R&B and indie/alternative. With this role focusing on international artists (only) it covers a particularly broad breadth of genre\xe2\x80\x99s
  • Excellent relationship-building and relationship-management skills with the ability to deal with difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and outstanding presentational ability
  • Successful experience in negotiating with artists, artist management, internal stakeholders and senior management
  • A broad network of relevant contacts, both UK and international
  • Proven authoritative knowledge of charts, trends, and artists, both UK and international
  • Be a creative and critical thinker. Take ideas from ideation to fruition
  • Have strong knowledge of the streaming space and playlisting, particularly on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Deezer & YouTube
  • Experience of working with acts of various sizes and budget
  • Experience of effectively managing budgets on own projects and maximising profits
  • Success at incorporating digital activity and content strategy into marketing campaigns
  • Experience instigating and managing promo trips and content shoots, managing itineraries and budgets and comms with artist management and partner label(s)
