About the role (External)
What does the average day look like?
In this role, you'll lead the planning and delivery of proactive media relations and public relations strategies that bring Network Rail's priorities and initiatives to life. You'll be a key member of our 24/7 press desk, providing round-the-clock support and taking part in on-call shifts to handle media requests whenever they arise. Your day-to-day will involve putting national media campaigns into action, ensuring they are fully evaluated, and using insights to measure and demonstrate the impact of our work.
You'll build and maintain strong relationships with national media, editors, and senior journalists, acting as a trusted spokesperson for Network Rail. Monitoring the media landscape - including social channels - you'll respond quickly and accurately to questions or misconceptions, and keep senior colleagues informed of significant media activity. Press releases, briefings, photo opportunities, and facility visits will be under your remit, as well as broadcast media visits to bring our work to a wider audience.
Crucially, you'll be expected to create and adapt content that is concise, engaging, and optimised for mobile platforms - ensuring our messages reach audiences wherever they are and however they choose to engage. You'll help set the standard for clear, accessible communication, recognising that the way we share our story is as important as the story itself.
Working closely with senior leaders, you'll develop messaging, briefings, and media opportunities that position Network Rail as a credible, forward-looking organisation. When major incidents occur, you'll be ready to support our crisis communications plan, helping Network Rail communicate confidently and effectively when it matters most.
This is your opportunity to make a real impact - helping to build public trust, drive positive change, and ensure Network Rail's voice is heard at a time of industry-wide transformation.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for an experienced, results-driven media and PR professional to help shape how we engage with millions across the country. As Senior Media & PR Manager, you'll be at the forefront of telling our story - championing our achievements, protecting our reputation, and ensuring our communications reflect the ambition and integrity of Britain's railway.
