The Role:

The Community Occupational Therapy service works across the city of Portsmouth in social care teams for Older People and Adults with Physical or Sensory Impairments. This is a city-wide post.

Main Duties of the role

Underpinned by the desire to continuously improve:

  • You will be working with people who have the most complex and complicated needs.
  • You will work primarily with disabled people and their carers in their own homes, assessing needs and implementing agreed action plans to facilitate choice and control in their lives and enable participation in the community.
  • You will be assessing, advising on and adapting methods of carrying out daily activities to support individuals in managing their disability and promoting independent living and Wellbeing.
  • You will use assistive technologies and design and construction methods to improve, restore and attain occupational performance.
  • You will have, or be supported in developing, expertise in seating and posture management, moving and handling, assistive technologies and Independent Mobility Assessments as part of the Blue Badge assessment.
  • You will recommend, and provide where appropriate, specialised equipment and demonstrate and give guidance to clients and carers in the use of equipment.
  • You will provide support and advice to clients and their families/carers in their adjustment to disability and long-term conditions.
What you\'ll need to succeed

Who is the person?

You will have:
  • A Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists or BSc Occupational Therapy or any Occupational Therapy qualification recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists
  • Substantial post qualifying experience in a relevant field of practice
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. (HCPC)
  • Extensive experience of designing adaptations, using assistive technologies and design and construction methods to improve, restore and attain occupational performance.
  • Extensive experience of complex caseload management, including working under pressure, managing competing demands and prioritising to meet deadlines.
