The Senior Paddock Steward will supervise, manage and control the conduct of all licenced persons at Towcester Racecourse, including trainers and kennel staff, in the paddock area.
The postholder will manage a small team of paddock stewards and always enforce the highest possible standards of greyhound welfare and integrity.
Hours: 40 per week (weekends required)

Principal accountabilities and responsibilities
Oversee all kennel procedures, in accordance with GBGB Rules of Racing and local operational rules
Ensure paddock cleanliness is maintained at the highest level and that all cleaning schedule jobs are completed and recorded by paddock stewards
Assist with the smooth running of race meetings and support Racing Office with certain roles to ensure racecourse complies with GBGB rules and regulations
Ensure kennel/paddock area is a safe working environment, and that integrity and welfare are at the heart of every task carried out
Good authoritative communication within the paddock area with paddock stewards, trainers and kennel staff
Overall responsibility for scanning microchips, checking ear marks and racing jackets of dogs to ensure correct identification of greyhounds for each race/trial
Ensure all paddock stewards, trainers and kennel hands are always wearing full uniform
Oversee sampling and "marking up" of greyhounds for new registrations
Abide by all regulations and safe working practices as detailed in Company's Health and Safety Policy and Procedures
Develop good working relationship with other stewards, trainers, kennel staff
Pro-actively help colleagues work together to maintain the highest standard of care for the greyhounds
Ensure issues are raised with Head of Racing swiftly and all maintenance issue reported
Drive the hare at greyhound race meetings and trial sessions during sickness or annual leave (full training will be provided)
Qualifications & Experience
Excellent greyhound welfare knowledge
Minimum three years' experience in leadership role
Background in greyhound racing or sport preferred
Working knowledge of racing office software systems and GBGB kennel software systems
Computer literate (Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams etc)
