The Paddock Steward will be an important part of a small team which manages all licenced persons, including trainers and kennel hands, in the paddock area.
The postholder will report to the Senior Paddock Steward and together will enforce the highest possible standards of greyhound welfare and integrity, helping to ensure that Towcester Racecourse complies with GBGB rules and regulations.
Hours: 40 per week (weekends required)

Principal accountabilities and responsibilities
Ensure paddock cleanliness is maintained at the highest level and that cleaning schedule jobs are completed and recorded
Assist with the smooth running of race meetings and support racing office with certain roles to ensure racecourse compliance with GBGB rules and regulations
Carry out all kennel procedures, in accordance with GBGB Rules of Racing and local operational rules, ensuring integrity and welfare are at the heart of every task
Ensure kennel/paddock area is a safe working environment
Good communication within the paddock area with other paddock stewards, trainers and kennel staff and develop strong working relationships
Scan microchips at kennelling, checking ear marks and racing jackets of dogs to ensure correct identification of greyhounds for each race/trial
Ensure all trainers and kennel hands are always wearing full uniform
Learn to oversee taking of sampling and accuracy around the "marking up" of greyhounds for new registrations
Assist on track with greyhound safety at strategic points during a race
Clean and disinfect race kennels after racing and trial sessions
Pro-actively help colleagues work together to maintain the highest standard of care for the greyhounds
Ensure issues are raised with Head of Racing swiftly and all maintenance issue s reported
Drive the hare at greyhound race meetings and trial sessions during sickness or annual leave (full training will be provided)
Qualifications & Experience
Background in greyhound racing or sport preferred but not essential
Working knowledge of racing office software systems and GBGB kennel software systems desirable
Computer literate (Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams etc)
