Senior Project Planner (Major Rail Infrastructure)
Location: West London
Salary: Up to 100,000 depending on experience + Comprehensive Package
We at Smart4EPC are currently assisting our Top Ranked M&E Contractor client on their search for an experienced Senior Project Planner to support the delivery of one of the UK's most significant rail infrastructure projects. This is a critical role within a large-scale, complex engineering environment, offering the opportunity to shape programme delivery across major tunneling and underground works.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor integrated project schedules for major tunneling, vent shaft, and underground infrastructure works.
  • Lead planning activities across design, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring alignment with overall programme objectives.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams including civil engineering, MEP, tunneling contractors, and design consultants to ensure schedule integrity.
  • Produce detailed progress reports, critical path analysis, and look-ahead programmes for senior stakeholders and client interfaces.
  • Identify schedule risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies to maintain programme delivery.
  • Support commercial and project management teams with baseline development, change management, and earned value analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contract requirements and industry best practices in planning and scheduling.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior planning staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Role Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Senior Planner or Project Planner within major infrastructure, rail, or civils environments.
  • Demonstrable expertise in tunneling and vent shaft construction planning, ideally on large-scale underground rail or metro projects.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject; strong working knowledge of scheduling best practices (APM, PMI, or equivalent).
  • Experience working within NEC3/NEC4 contract frameworks and collaborative delivery environments.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • A proactive, detail-oriented professional capable of thriving in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
