What are we looking for?



Memorial Houston medical is seeking to hire an enthusiastic, passionate and collaborative Charge Nurse band 6/7 depending on experience to become a part of our ICU team, offering a competitive salary that will be determined based on experience and qualifications.



This position requires availability from Monday to Sunday, covering days, nights, and weekends, with the following shift patterns: inclusion of long day shifts of 12 hours and night shifts, with potential options for shorter shifts based on service requirements.



The Intensive Care Charge Nurse will be tasked with the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients needing level 2 and 3 care. The role demands the ability to deliver both general and specialized direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organisation.

What we need from you? And what will your duties include?



You will oversee the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of care for critically ill adults, ensuring that all patient care is planned and executed to the highest safety standards. In this role, you will serve as a strong role model and mentor, guiding and managing junior and unqualified staff in all facets of care. Additionally, you will engage in audits, projects, local teaching initiatives, and development planning, while also playing a key role in sharing new information about updated clinical practices, guidelines, and policies with the nursing team.



A diploma or degree at the Essential (First Level) level is preferred; an MSC is valuable but not mandatory. A current nursing registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) is required, with no practice restrictions. Candidates must be open to self-directed learning and committed to maintaining their registration and knowledge. Proven clinical experience is necessary in managing high-acuity critically ill adults, including those with invasive lines, mechanical ventilation, continuous and intermittent haemodialysis, and vasoactive intravenous medications within a hospital environment. A broad range of experience in critical care specialties is essential, including cardiac and cardiothoracic care, neurosurgery, renal, oncology, orthopedic, and gastrointestinal surgery. Leadership and management skills/ course to manage a core team of nurses Completion of a 60-credit Adult Critical Care/Intensive Care Course or an equivalent program, as well as the Step 1 Critical Care Competencies Course, is required. Substantial experience as an ICU Charge Nurse Strong foundation in clinical leadership and patient care management ensuring compliance and best practices within the unit. A background in formulation and implementation of policies and standard operating procedures, Successfully conducted and completed audits, demonstrating my commitment to quality improvement and accountability Effectively manage a team of nurses, prioritizing their continuous professional development and ensuring that competencies are consistently updated to meet evolving healthcare standards. Delivers direct nursing care to patients needing level 2 and 3 support, adhering to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Prioritises nursing interventions, identifies any deterioration in patients' conditions, and promptly escalates concerns to senior clinicians. Acts as the main coordinator among various disciplines to ensure seamless patient care. Conducts thorough patient assessments to guarantee the maintenance of harm-free care.
