What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

• Lead in the derivation and assessment of safety requirements, understanding how to achieve those requirements and verify they have been met, including SIL assessments and safety justifications on the design. Also lead in identifying any gaps in existing safety requirements already implemented
• Provide technical leadership for the Safety Engineering team and help with development of junior members of the team
• Carry out safety management activities, for project scope commensurate with applicable standards at the required Safety Integrity Level
• Act as the safety Subject Matter Expert on a variety projects; supplying knowledge and experience in the defence environment for the development of real-time software and electronic systems in the function of Safety Engineering
• Lead safety review meetings with safety stakeholders for purposes of Hazard Identification and Analysis (HIA) and safety / environmental risk reduction
• Lead in the use of both quantitative and qualitative techniques for analysing failures of both software and hardware
• Assist in the preparation and maintenance of equipment hazard logs and safety reports

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring

The role of Senior Safety Engineer requires the following experience and skills:

• Minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 prior related experience as a Safety Engineer and able to demonstrate leadership qualities
• Experience leading on hazard and risk assessments, including development and maintenance of hazard logs
• Significant knowledge and experience in def stan 00-056 and 00-055
• Experience in working to IEC 61508
• Knowledge and experience of both quantitative and qualitative techniques for analysing failures of both software and hardware, using appropriate methods and analysis
• Experience in both software and hardware development environments
• Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office, DOORS, safety and reliability databases / tools)
