HOURS PER WEEK: 18 - ideally split over Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays to allow a combination of joint working with the current job share and independent working.

OVERALL PURPOSE:
To provide a high standard of evidence based, holistic nursing care, support and knowledge to the children and young people at Linwood school and their families, contributing to the effective management of health needs in order to promote choice, independence and quality of life for the people we support.
Key responsibilities
To provide specialised nursing assessment of all pupils.
To provide planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing and care needs for those pupils whose health care needs are above those of universal nursing services for children and young people.
To provide advice, support, training and supervision to other staff within the organisation, to families and to other stakeholders as required, under the direction of the Lead Nurse.
To work with universal health care services to enable the children and young people at Linwood School to access health care in a timely and beneficial way.
To work with the rest of the Diverse Abilities Nursing Team to develop and improve services, contributing to the provision of excellent nursing care to children and young people with complex needs.
Clinical duties
To demonstrate professional skill and knowledge in the clinical practices required for the nursing care of service users who have physical and learning disabilities with complex health care needs.
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate health care, guiding other school staff where appropriate to deliver effective, holistic, person centred care.
To be competent in and able to teach the use of appropriate technical equipment in order to provide the best care for each person supported.
To take an active role in health promotion with pupils, supporting and encouraging them to take as active a role as possible in taking responsibility for their own health.
Planning, Organisation and Service Delivery
To monitor and manage individual and team workload, ensuring the work of the nurses is in keeping with the aims and objectives of Diverse Abilities and Linwood School.
To assist the Lead Nurse and other Senior Nurses with the organisation of regular team development days.
To participate in audits of service delivery and implement findings to improve the care of the people we support.
Training and Education
To deliver theoretical and practical training for a variety of clinical procedures to other school employees as required to enable the individual health needs of the people we support to be met effectively.
To ensure the provision of a validated, supportive and challenging environment for student nurses in training.
To encourage all members of the nursing team to actively pursue continuing professional development and facilitate opportunities for this to occur.
Communication and key relationships
To be competent in a variety of different communication methods in order to communicate effectively with the people we support and promote dignity and respect in care.
To participate in local and national professional groups, forums and networks where relevant to the care we provide.
Professional
To always practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
To maintain appropriate confidentiality surrounding the care of the people we support at all times, in line with the Nursing and Midwifery code and the policies of Linwood School.
To engage with clinical supervision, team development and nursing revalidation activities as necessary.
