Job Description

The focus of the post is to reduce the number of shift lead duties rostered on the senior carers whilst carrying out care tasks.

This post will be the first point of contact from the carers.

All calls will be recorded and have an outcome.

This post will be based in office at Market Rasen, using PASS, Careplanner & the telephone to respond & support carers working with service users.

The post is full time and comprises of both early 7:00-15:00 & late shifts 15:00-22:00, including weekend work & Bank Holidays.

To meet the purpose of a Senior Carer Job Role.

The person in this role will be on call an hour either side of the shift patterns to make sure the service users and care givers are safe.

Focus & Key Duties



To answerphone calls from the caregivers providing supervision and clear leadership to a team of carers.

To be able to give clear direction & guidance to the carers and other callers.

Record all events/calls at a standard that's acceptable for inspection purposes & the senior management team.

Implement knowledge of policies, procedures and legislation. (The staff handbook should be the go-to)

The shift lead will work independently & problem solve using their experience within the domiciliary care sector.

The post holder has to be a competent care worker to Senior Care Level in the event of providing care as necessary.

Action & escalate of any safeguards immediately

Implement feedback to the caller, or arrange a more suitable time for same.

Implementation of the disciplinary policy.

Complete incident forms & add training requirements onto the appropriate agendas.

Work in partnership via telephone with other agencies.

Update teams re hospital admissions/discharges.

Recording database contact tasks, modifying care packages where necessary and to communicate changes to all appropriate care providers and patients as required.

Other Duties



Attend training on a regular basis to ensure all mandatory training and personal development needs are met in line with Amber Care's requirements.

To receive, review and prioritise incoming information (including telephone calls, e-mails and any other form of communication).

The implementation of systems of working which enable CQC compliance, for example, providing evidence of how the service delivery meets the K.L.O.E.s.

Meet health and safety legislative requirements, for example, risk identification, management and assessment.

Supervise a team of carers in the delivery of care to the service users in line with the care plans.

Inspire the team to promote service user's dignity, choice, rights and independence and ensure service users receive a quality service.

Work within current national legislation and Amber Care's policies and procedures.

Ensure that all medications administered are recorded, in line with written policies and procedures on drug administration.

Safeguard vulnerable adults from abuse, recognising the signs of abuse and follow Amber Care's procedures in the event of an allegation of abuse.

Ensure incidents and emergencies are dealt with in accordance with Amber Care's policies and procedures, including contacting relevant parties and the completion and resolution of incident forms.

Ensure work is recorded accurately and appropriately in compliance with Amber Care's requirements and that records made, and personal information used, are compliant with the GDPR and the standards of information governance.

Support with the training of carers through mentoring, shadowing, and competency assessments. This will include supporting staff to complete their care certificate.

Contribute to and attend service user reviews and multi-disciplinary meetings.

Provide evidence and support inspection processes. Contribute to internal and external inspections.

Support the recruitment process, including interviews and organising shadow shifts.

Contribute to the updating of policies and cascading of this information to their team.

Undertake service user initial assessments and update the PASS system continuously.
