ABOUT THIS ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in the data domain to help us create modern solutions for the data platform in Apex. Apex is recognized for disrupting the financial services industry, enabling fintech standouts like Stash, Webull and Betterment. You will join the recently established Belfast arm of the Apex Data Team.

Joining the team, you will be working alongside experienced software engineers, data engineers, and product managers to design, build, deploy, and maintain services and systems at the core of our new cloud native Data Platform. We build and own services spanning across; data storage, data processing, data access, machine learning, and data analytics. This role offers an opportunity to work across many of these data domains or specialise as an SME as you establish yourself within Apex.

The ideal candidate is one that integrates well within a team and strives for collaborative, modern engineering and team practices, acting as a multiplier for the team day to day.

What you might do day to day:

  • Develop, test, and maintain data architectures, pipelines, warehouses, and other systems to transit, store, and distribute data throughout the organization.
  • Develop, test, and maintain features of our Machine Learning and analytics platforms, delivering predictive data solutions internally and externally.
  • Collaborate and solve complex data and engineering problems, and solve them for scale.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand problems and requirements and work towards solutions.
  • Lead initiatives and projects to design, create, and own scalable cloud services systems and pipelines for our various data domains.
  • Manage, optimise, and improve existing data warehouse and data lake solutions for performance, availability, scaling etc.
  • Write self-documenting and well-tested code with an emphasis on sustainable devSecOps practices. Work as a part of a productive development team that puts an emphasis on code quality, peer reviews, documentation and strong engineering practices.
You should have some of the following:
  • A degree or work experience equivalent in a relevant field
  • Strong proficiency in relevant language(s).
  • Background experience of engineering in data / datasci / machine learning or related domains.
  • Experience working with modern database systems (e.g. Bigquery, Postgres, Mongo, Redis, etc)
  • Experience in cloud engineering, particularly around; data technologies and services, microservices, scalability and best practices, design and implementation.
  • Experience in infrastructure, modern IaC (e.g. Terraform), cloud service deployment and management, and modern CI/CD
  • Understanding of batch, and real-time data pipelines, data replication, data streaming.
  • Experience leading or contributing to architectural design, or an understanding of modern practices in cloud software architecture.
  • Experience as a lead engineer on projects / initiatives, and experience solving both technical and delivery issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels to varied stakeholders.
  • A desire to strive for modern engineering practices and standards, a DevSecOps mindset, and a desire to push good practice within your team and at a wider level to deliver value.
  • Adaptability to pickup and learn new technologies/systems/languages as needed day to day.
Experience in the financial industry is not required, but is a plus.
