Due to growth of the business area, an increasing workload and development within the team, we have a requirement to fill a new role of Senior Technical Specialist. This senior project based role performs the Design Authority role across a range of diverse large projects concerned with RF based solutions.

This role shall ensure the successful development of multiple projects within a rapidly growing business area. With customer intimacy and close collaboration with partner organisations, we work to achieve a market leading position in this field.

Reporting to the Programme Chief Engineer, the Design Authority will provide critical advice and guidance to the wider team (which may be both internal engineers and external organisations), in addition to playing a key role in developing the next generation of Design Authorities. This will involve the technical oversight and guidance to engineers developing Electronic Warfare solutions for Land Based systems and ultimately signing off those designs.

The role requires a candidate who is self-motivated and enthusiastic, with strong leadership and behavioural skills and extensive experience. A strong commercial and business awareness is essential to ensure that the overall engineering effort is well-focussed and delivering integrity, delighting the customer and ensuring project success.

What You\'ll Do

Leading the Design Solution for key strategic campaigns

A domain expert who engages with authorities and customers to shape the technical solution.

Developing the solution architectures for optimum cost effectiveness and User Requirements compliance

Ensuring the integrity of the delivered product design in terms of compliance, safety and integrity.
Support the programme by providing advice and clarification in planning product compliance, facilitating access and engagement with appropriate technical expertise.

Ensure a culture of Best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation.
Ensuring the generation of clear and relevant engineering plans, establishing key milestones and identifying risks, opportunities and interdependencies.

Providing expert advice, judgement and guidance across engineering teams potentially across multiple organisations.

Developing the next generation of Design Authorities, through development of the wider existing teams competence - building capability and capacity.

This role will also require attendance at monthly Board level Project reviews to report on status and progress

What We\'re Looking For

Educated to a degree level or equivalent in an engineering-related subject (essential)

A broad engineering background is required with significant experience working with Electronic Warfare technologies.

A Chartered Engineer, a Member or Fellow of a recognised Engineering or Science Professional body is desirable.

Proactive with stakeholders and diplomatic while understanding the respective pressures when dealing with conflicting demands. Firmness & clarity in decision-making is very important. The ability to balance technical excellence against the commercial needs of the business is essential.

A high level of appreciation of the interaction of design, manufacturing, supply chain & support capabilities is essential.

Good, clear, communication skills are essential.

Experience of working within the defence industry is essential.

Good coaching skills are highly desirable. The individual needs to be willing to help point teams in the right direction without the need to take over & do the job for them.

A strong understanding and experience of EW (Electronic Warfare) technology, RF Systems, integration of vehicle systems and high software content developments is also highly desirable.

You must have demonstrable relevant experience and proven success in their previous roles. You must have well-rounded engineering experience in all phases of the design lifecycle, and must have previous significant exposure to all aspects of engineering plan
