WSP is seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our expanding North West and Midlands Roads business. We provide design services for a diverse range of projects, supporting private developers, local authorities in the North West and Midlands, as well as national clients such as National Highways, National Grid, and East West Rail.
Your role will be at the heart of our high performing and supportive team, using your digital skills and expertise to help us maintain and improve the quality of our engineering outputs. You can expect your role to involve:
Production of technical engineering information, ensuring the quality of our products are in line with industry standards.
Lead on CAD quality across the team to ensure we maintain high standards across our project portfolio.
Supporting design development by applying your expertise in highways, drainage and civil infrastructure projects. You will be supported by a team of experienced and developing technical staff of various grades, to whom you will be expected to provide guidance and support as appropriate.
Conducting site visits/investigations to gather information critical to successful project design.
Apply safe systems of working and contribute to risk assessments.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...
Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads.
Level 3 qualification (or above) in a STEM based subject, or equivalent experience in an engineering technician role.
Attained or working towards professional qualifications such as EngTech, with demonstrable progress.
An understanding of highway engineering principles, including design techniques, standards, and procedures with the ability to apply this knowledge to small-scale projects or a limited number of moderately complex projects.
Experience of data handling with MS Excel and/or other data-based systems
Good communication skills dealing with clients, developers, consultants, elected representatives and the public.
Ability to upskill others in the use of software as well as the 'art of engineering drawings'.
Good organisational skills and an attention to detail.
