Are you a motivated and experienced professional, ready to undertake a senior specialist role within our Trading Standards Team?



We're seeking a Senior Specialist to join our Trading Standards team, focusing on the business compliance portfolio, including metrology, product safety, used car sales, illegal tobacco and vapes, underage sales, counterfeiting, and intellectual property crime.

Key responsibilities of the role:




Ensure the effective delivery of Trading Standards (Business Compliance) services across Pembrokeshire, in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance. Collaborate with the Lead Officer (Trading Standards) to shape priorities, coordinate activities, and ensure objectives are met. Provide technical advice, supervise enforcement activities, and support colleagues to ensure high-quality, consistent service delivery. Build partnerships with government bodies and enforcement agencies to deliver impactful trading standards initiatives. Maintain expertise in relevant legislation and policies, contributing to the development of procedures, work plans, and staff training. Act as a leader within the team, guiding inspections, and driving continuous improvement. Receive and respond to referrals from other enforcement authorities. Investigate complaints and incidents, ensuring appropriate actions and legal reviews. Conduct proactive inspections and follow-up visits. Engage in Primary Authority Partnership activities. To respond to applications made under the Licensing Act 2003, as a 'responsible authority'.

About You




Qualification:





You must hold one of the following qualifications:
CTSI Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma (Trading Standards Advanced Practitioner and Chartered Status desirable). Diploma in Trading Standards (DTS) or equivalent, or Degree in Trading Standards or equivalent, including Metrology, or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS) including Metrology



Essential Experience and Skills:




Significant experience working in a trading standards regulatory role, employing a range of formal enforcement tools up to and including formal investigations and the preparation of files of evidence in support of prosecution. Strong IT proficiency, analytical abilities, and the confidence to enforce legal standards tactfully. A full valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes are essential. Welsh language skills are desirable.



Job Working Environment:




The role will involve working at a variety of locations including site visits to businesses around Pembrokeshire and occasionally out of County. You may occasionally be required to work outside regular office hours to ensure the effective fulfillment of the Authority's responsibilities and deliver a high standard of service to customers.



Key Working Conditions:




An element of work may be undertaken from home, in accordance with corporate hybrid working arrangements. Engage directly with businesses and locations through on-site inspections and investigations. Be prepared to occasionally encounter challenging environments, such as cold temperatures, exposure to animals, or noisy and dirty settings. Manage occasional confrontational situations with professionalism, as the role may involve dealing with potentially aggressive individuals. Flexibility is essential; some tasks may require working outside of standard office hours to meet the needs of the Authority and provide exceptional service to our customers.
