We are seeking an experienced Senior Veterinary Inspector to support APHA's Outbreak Control Services (OCS) through desk-based tracings, licensing and surveillance activity. This is a regulatory, operational role suited to veterinarians with outbreak experience who are confident working in high-pressure, fast-paced response environments.
About the Role
Your duties will include:
Supporting outbreak response through desk-based tracings, licensing and surveillance activities within veterinary operational cells.
Reviewing and assessing data, evidence and intelligence relating to notifiable disease investigations.
Providing clear, consistent veterinary advice to APHA colleagues and operational partners.
Supporting regulatory decision-making, compliance checks and documentation reviews.
Contributing to national contingency planning and operational response activity.
Providing telephone-based veterinary support during disease events.
Participating in weekend and on-call rotas to ensure outbreak response coverage.
This is a fully desk-based role - no field work is required.
What We're Looking For
A qualified veterinarian with strong knowledge of notifiable animal diseases and outbreak response.
Previous experience in outbreak tracings, licensing or surveillance cells is highly desirable.
Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Confident communicator, able to provide clear veterinary advice in operational settings.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary response team.
Must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Full right to work in the UK - sponsorship is not available.
