Working Pattern:

Monday-Friday, 7.5 hours per day between 06:00-22:00



(weekend/on-call rota in place)

Travel:

Travel required - Full UK driving licence is essential



We are seeking a Senior Veterinary Inspector to support APHA's frontline operational delivery across animal health, welfare and regulatory compliance. This role involves a mixture of field investigations, regulatory inspections and incident response activity, making it ideal for an experienced veterinarian confident working autonomously and managing varied caseloads.

About the Role





Your duties will include:




Conducting on-farm investigations into suspected notifiable diseases, including clinical examinations, sampling and post-mortem where required. Managing TB breakdown cases and supporting disease control decision-making. Carrying out inspections at Animal By-Product premises and other regulated sites. Collecting, submitting and interpreting samples and evidence for laboratory testing. Preparing clear reports, recommendations and witness statements where required. Participating in incident and outbreak response, including detached duty if needed. Providing expert veterinary advice to animal keepers, industry partners and APHA colleagues. Supporting regulatory checks, audit activity and compliance interventions. Taking part in weekday and weekend on-call rotas, ensuring 24/7 operational coverage.



What We're Looking For




A qualified veterinarian with strong knowledge of farmed animal health, welfare and notifiable diseases. Experience in disease investigation, field inspections or regulatory veterinary work is highly desirable. Confident decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret complex information. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to work flexibly across a geographical area and manage varied caseloads. Must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Full UK driving licence. Full right to work in the UK - sponsorship is not available.
