Job Opportunity: Senior Veterinary Inspector (SVI)

Location:

Remote with 60% office attendance at any APHA site (preference for Exeter, Cardiff, Worcester, York, Bristol, Carlisle or Stafford)

Contract:

Until 31/03/2026 (potential extension)

Start Date:

Ideally 15/12/2025

Working Pattern:

Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm (weekends/on-call on a rota basis)

Travel:

No Travel expected



We are seeking an experienced Senior Veterinary Inspector (SVI) for a fully desk-based role supporting national animal health, regulatory oversight and APHA operational delivery. This contract position is ideal for a veterinarian with strong decision-making skills and experience in disease control or regulatory environments.

About the Role

Your duties will include:

Supporting outbreak response through desk-based tracings, licensing and surveillance activities, contributing to APHA's operational cells. Reviewing evidence and data relating to notifiable diseases, welfare incidents and regulatory cases. Providing clear, professional veterinary advice to APHA colleagues and external stakeholders. Assisting with regulatory checks, audit activity, compliance assessments and certification reviews. Contributing to contingency planning and providing telephone-based support during disease events. Participating in a weekend and on-call rota to ensure appropriate operational coverage.

What We're Looking For

A qualified veterinarian with strong knowledge of farmed animal health and notifiable diseases. Experience in outbreak tracings, licensing or surveillance cells is highly desirable. Strong analytical, decision-making and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative operational environment. Must be registered with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Full UK driving licence. Full right to work in the UK - sponsorship is not available.
