Community Ties Youth Provision Senior Youth Worker Overview
Haxby & Wigginton Youth & Community Association is seeking to hire a skilled and confident individual to be our Senior Youth Worker. The role leads the delivery of Wednesday Youth Group and Thursday Drop-in, alongside Detached Youth Work as part of our Community Ties Youth Provision during Term Time.
The Senior Youth Worker will be responsible for overseeing the activity taking place, safety and safeguarding of our group members during group, behaviour management, overseeing our Project/Activity Youth Workers, and Community Centre open and closing duties. They will also be responsible for planning and delivering content which is appropriate for young people between the ages of 10-17.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of delivering creative, challenging, and relevant content for young people, be a skilled communicator, and committed to making a difference to the lives of young people. We also require the Senior Youth Worker to implement weekly activity accessible to all interests and abilities, with practical support from the Youth Team. The successful candidate will be expected to efficiently use their planning time and manage a small budget for each group.
The role consists of 8 hours per week at a rate of 14 per hour.
Working Hours
Tuesday:
2 hours per week to be used as planning and admin time to be done at the Wigginton Old School during Craft Club time (5:45-7:45pm) so any necessary group support which may be needed during the session can be provided. The Senior Youth Worker will generally not be needed as part of delivery of this group.
Wednesday Youth Group:
2 hours per week from 5:45-7:45pm for set up, clear down and delivery, plus an additional 30 minutes from home for notes.
Thursday Drop-in and Detached Youth Work
: 3 hours per week from 5:45-8:45pm for set up, clear down and delivery of Detached and Drop-in, plus an additional 30 minutes from home for notes.

For young people aged 10-13
Wednesday Youth Group is an open access provision for young people ages 10-13. We deliver a range of activities including sports, arts and crafts, games, cooking/baking and more. We aim to empower young people to make positive choices and build social connections in a fun and safe environment.
Drop-in and Detached Youth Work, Thursdays 5:45-8:45pm
Detached Delivery Time: 6:00-6:45pm
Drop-in Delivery Time: 7:00-8:30pm
Location: Oaken Grove Community Centre, Haxby
For young people aged 13-17
Detached Youth Work in Haxby and Wigginton is offered to engage with young people in their own spaces while encouraging them to attend Drop-in or utilise our other services.
Drop-in is an informal group for young people to socialise and access youth services. The Senior Youth Worker should work with the Project Youth Worker to plan appropriate activities each week to explore positive and healthy lifestyle choices or youth challenges, such as body image, relationships, school, self-expression as we strive to help with the growing antisocial behaviour in the community.
Key Tasks
Weekly planning and delivery of a wide range of engaging activities which are age appropriate.
Demonstrative personable and relatable approaches to engaging with young people in groups and in public spaces.
Establishing relationships and supporting general activity engagement with the young people.
Resolving youth conflicts and dealing with challenging and potentially antisocial behaviour.
Following all safeguarding practices.
Supporting the completion of general admin for the club such as registers, letters, forms and budgets.
Working closely with the other Youth Workers to ensure term planning and delivery are successful.
Confidence in approaching young people during Detached Youth Work delivery.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Must be available during the allotted times during term on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week.
Previously involved in the delivery of a youth provision/group or similar programme for a minimum of 1 year.
Experience of working with young people between 10-17 years of age.
Experience working with groups of up to 30 young people.
Up to date safeguarding knowledge and training.
Previous experience planning and delivering large and small scale activities for young people.
Excellent behaviour management skills.
Demonstrative experience of working in a team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organisational skills.
Experience managing a small budget.
Desirable Criteria
Previous Detached Youth Work experience.
Educated up to degree level in a relevant subject matter (for example Children and Young people services).
Up to date First Aid
Please note: Candidate must be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check if appointed the position of Senior Youth Worker. We will also require 2 references from the appointed candidate.
