Job Purpose



To provide leadership and management for Age UK Canterbury's services. These services include:

Day Opportunities

Dementia Day Care

Activities Programme

Arts and Crafts Programme

Hot Meal Delivery Service

The Post holder will work with and through the Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer in ensuring that Age UK Canterbury continues to deliver and develop all its health and wellbeing services for older people in the Canterbury and surrounding areas.

The Post holder will support ongoing service development and assist in the maintenance of our quality processes and procedures which include our ISO, Charity Quality Standards and food hygiene standard assessments.

Main Responsibilities



To communicate effectively with clients, staff, volunteers and visitors and advise the Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer on any areas that may need action.

To lead and motivate care staff and volunteers working within the service areas and undertake appraisal and supervision.

To promote, develop and deliver quality services and take responsibility for triage, care plans, risk assessments and improvement processes.

To encourage people to make choices and decisions enabling each person to take control of their own lives and independence.

The promote and develop our services and activity programmes.

To perform such duties as may reasonably be required and to work fully within the policies and procedures of the organisation.

To support the Deputy Chief Officer in the day to day management of services and to produce timely information and statistics as requested.

To provide Senior Care Worker support and minibus driving support as and when required.

To provide scheduling support for the hot meal delivery service.

To provide leadership and scheduling support for the minibus logistics in collecting and returning our clients home.

To provide leadership and scheduling support in the implementation and development in the activities, arts and crafts and services.

The post holder will be required to support the delivery of the Dementia Day Care and Cogs Group as required.

To develop positive working relationships with family and carers and communicate effectively with external agencies such as Care Managers and other professionals.

To be an ambassador for all the services provided by Age UK Canterbury and be proactive in establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with all partners and individuals in promoting the work of the charity.

To ensure the continuous improvement of all areas of responsibility.

The Post holder to have good information technology skills and to support social media programmes as required.

To ensure that the appropriate skill mix of staff and volunteers is in place to afford the delivery of all scheduled services.

Person Specification



NVQ or equivalent in Health and Social Care desirable but not essential.

Management qualification is desirable but not essential.

Three years experience of working with older people and those living with dementia.

Car Driver essential.

Experience in personal care.

Management and Leadership skills in order to lead a team across all the social opportunities and wellbeing programmes.

To be able to work unsupervised and to be methodical and organised.

Good computer and IT skills.

To be honest and trustworthy.

To be discreet in dealing with clients and ensure confidentiality at all times.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 29,000.00 per year
