The role is site-based at Sunningdale Court, Crawley, but the post-holder must also provide cover for the nearby Perryfield House during the long-term absence of the Scheme Manager for that site.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide a supportive environment for residents, promoting wellbeing, social involvement and independence and to manage the scheme. To act as a Scheme Manager at Sunningdale Court promoting the independence and well-being of residents and encouraging a supportive environment. This role also acts as a co-ordinator of support, liaising with care agencies whilst ensuring the administration, management and maintenance of the scheme are in accordance with Keniston's standards and procedures.

The Sheltered Scheme Manager must be able to demonstrate they are listening to our residents, understanding their needs and respond appropriately. High levels of customer satisfaction are important to the Association and this role has a key part in achieving this. At times, the Sheltered Scheme Manager may encounter difficult situation with residents, so it is important to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate good listening skills.

There is a framework to follow but this role requires good judgement to deal with a variety of issues, typically, neighbour disputes, safeguarding issues, resolving disputes regarding the use of communal facilities and meeting diverse needs. The job holder will require tact and diplomacy to manage expectations of residents and sometimes their families, dealing with challenging behaviour and prioritising the isolated or more vulnerable residents. Personal attributes useful for this role include resilience, tolerance, a non-judgemental approach, empathy and sense of humour.

All team members are expected to develop their skills throughout their employment, apply fair working practices and respect differences.

Hours of Work



Monday to Friday. 20 hours per week. Usually 09:00 - 13:00 with no lunch break.

Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience



1-2 years previous experience of dealing with a vulnerable client group or working in a supported environment would be useful in this role. Knowledge of issues affecting older people e.g. dementia would be an advantage along with understanding the availability of local statutory, private and voluntary services and organisations and welfare benefits and services. Knowledge of writing Support plans for each individual resident using SMART targets and reviewing plans for effectiveness will be necessary. Other useful experience would be event planning, fundraising events and writing newsletters.

Training will be provided as necessary for the role. Mandatory training will be provided including:

Enhanced DBS Check



This role requires the post holder to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
