Role Overview
As the SHEQ Compliance Lead, you will play a transformational leadership role in developing, implementing, and maintaining an integrated SHEQ management system across all operations of the Global HSE Group. You will champion continuous improvement and proactively embed a culture of excellence, with a sharpened focus on leadership in quality assurance, strategic compliance, and high performing safety behaviours.
You will act as a trusted advisor to the Board, departmental heads, consultants, bid-writers and site teams, ensuring our organisation exceeds minimum legal compliance and meets the highest standards of operational integrity, customer assurance, and sustainable business practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive leadership in SHEQ excellence across all business units.
- Strengthen quality assurance frameworks in alignment with ISO 9001 and client delivery requirements.
- Promote visible safety leadership and empower teams to take ownership of SHEQ culture.
- On site auditing of safety, health, environment, quality. Significant travel is required throughout the UK. Must be comfortable with working at height on scaffolding and loft spaces.
- On site auditing of surveyors carrying out Fire Door Inspections and Passive Fire Prevention surveys. Significant travel is required throughout the UK.
- Provide asbestos awareness and consultation to on-site teams. Conduct asbestos survey checks prior to teams starting on site.
- Ensure consistent delivery of legal, regulatory, and best-practice compliance (e.g., ISO 9001, 14001, 45001; Building Safety Act; Fire Safety Order).
- Provide support across all business units to comply with the Integrated Management System, and manage the ISO audit schedule for ISOs 9001, 14001, 45001.
- Provide support to bid writers, human resources, and contract support teams with all documentation requests.
- Carry out ongoing business accreditation management and provide ongoing requirements for Constructionline Gold, CHAS Elite, SafeContrator SSIP, Acclaim as-well as supplier portals.
- Support the procurement team with PQQs, and environmental checks of supplies.
- Provide continual improvement with the Project Management System, including documentations such as CPP and RAMS.
- Horizon scanning of upcoming legislation changes, and implementation of changes.
- Enhance corporate reputation through proactive stakeholder engagement and transparent reporting.
- Lead on continuous improvement and promote innovation in SHEQ systems and service delivery.
- Measure Key Performance Indicators for Operational teams, against systems and process, on a quarterly basis. Identify trends for further support or praise.
- Manager with direct reports: One SHEQ administrator and one BSR consultant.
- Promoting CPD and PDP amongst your team and across the business.
- Continuing professional development with courses in passive fire protection and fire doors.
- Support directors with implementation of new business software, performing due diligence checks.
- Deliver weekly reporting, monthly Health and Safety Committee meetings, Vehicle tracking, KPI tracking, and updates for the senior leadership team, directors, and monthly board meetings.
Requirements
Minimum 3-5 years in a SHEQ leadership role.
Evidence of life-long learning.
NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management (or equivalent)
NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety & Risk Management (or equivalent).
Ability to obtain a CSCS AQP/PQP (passed CITB MAP within the last 2 years).
Degree educated.
Asbestos awareness qualifications and BOHS Qualifications (P402/P405 or equivalent).
Construction site auditing experience.
Lead auditor training (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 standards).
Demonstrable experience managing ISO systems and third-party audits.
Experience in the construction, built environment, ideally within fire engineering, building safety, or compliance sectors.
Experience with PAS 9980, CDM 2015, Fire Safety Order 2005, and Building Safety Act 2022.
Experience with SharePoint, Monday.com or similar types of business software.
Familiarity with site reporting software, such as Bolster, Plan Rader etc.
