The Site Technician is responsible for carrying out on-site material testing and sampling of
concrete and asphalt
to ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications, and project requirements. The role supports quality assurance on construction projects by providing accurate testing, reporting, and professional site presence.
Key Responsibilities Site Testing & Sampling
Carry out on-site testing of
fresh and hardened concrete
, including slump, compaction factor, air content, cube making, and curing
Perform
asphalt testing and sampling
, including density, temperature, thickness, and core sampling
Collect, label, and transport samples to the laboratory in accordance with procedures
Ensure all testing is undertaken in compliance with relevant standards (e.g. BS, EN, ASTM where applicable)
Reporting & Documentation
Accurately complete site test reports, check sheets, and chain-of-custody documentation
Record results clearly and submit data within required timescales
Report non-conformances, site issues, or abnormal results promptly

Carry out work in compliance with RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
Maintain safe working practices around live construction environments, traffic management, and plant operations
Equipment & Vehicle Care
Maintain testing equipment in good working order, including calibration checks
Ensure company vehicle is kept clean, roadworthy, and properly stocked
Report equipment faults or defects promptly
Client & Site Liaison
Act professionally on site and liaise with site managers, engineers, and contractors
Represent the company positively while working independently on client sites
Skills & Experience Essential
Experience in
materials testing
, specifically concrete and/or asphalt
Knowledge of relevant testing standards and site procedures
Ability to work independently and manage multiple site visits
Good written and verbal communication skills
Full UK driving licence (or equivalent)
Desirable
Experience working in a construction or civil engineering environment
Relevant certification (e.g. CSCS card, highway sector scheme training)
Laboratory testing experience
Qualifications
GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English (or relevant experience)
Industry-recognised materials testing qualifications (preferred but not essential)
