Job Description

Under the direction of the Sixth Form Manager, the post holder provides academic, pastoral, and administrative support to students within the Sixth Form. Key responsibilities focus on improving attainment, achievement, attendance, behaviour, and attitudes to learning, while offering first-contact support for student and parent enquiries. The role also provides general administrative assistance and contributes to admissions, events, behaviour management, and liaison with external agencies.

Key Responsibilities:



1. Student Support & Pastoral Care



Act as the first point of contact for students experiencing academic, pastoral, behavioural, or confidence-related issues, offering initial guidance and referring to appropriate staff or agencies.

Support students to remain on their courses and successfully complete their studies at St Benedict's.

Supervise Sixth Form study areas, common spaces, breaks and lunchtimes, ensuring an orderly, safe environment.

Address emerging pastoral or behavioural concerns professionally and promptly.

Enforce Sixth Form expectations, including uniform and conduct standards.

Support students in developing resilience, self-confidence, and independence through one-to-one or small-group mentoring.

Attend school trips, university visits, assemblies, and events to provide pastoral support and ensure smooth organisation.

Provide first aid when required.

Comply fully with safeguarding, child protection, and confidentiality procedures.

2. Attendance & Progress Monitoring



Monitor student attendance and punctuality using Arbor, identifying concerns and taking appropriate action.

Contact parents/carers regarding attendance issues and ensure follow-up interventions are implemented.

Record and track student progress, achievements, and concerns; maintain accurate, up-to-date records.

Act on results analysis, reporting concerns to the Progress Leader and supporting interventions to improve outcomes.

3. Academic Support



Provide initial support for academic concerns and liaise with subject staff where required.

Assist the Sixth Form Manager in implementing strategies to raise the Division's ALPS score, under the guidance of the Director of Sixth Form.

Support Year 13 results day, including distributing results, guiding students through clearing, and signposting further options.

Help organise and prepare tutorial packs, study resources and progress reports.

4. Admissions, Transition & Destinations



Support with student admissions, including processing applications, conducting interviews and managing enrolment processes.

Assist in delivering transition activities and events for new Sixth Form students.

Provide administrative support for careers appointments, work experience, placements, and visiting speakers.

Provide employment references and documentation for students (e.g., tax credit forms, gym memberships).

5. Communication & Liaison



Act as a first contact point for parents/carers, providing information, addressing concerns, and directing queries appropriately.

Establish constructive working relationships with internal colleagues and external agencies to support student needs.

Maintain regular communication across the Sixth Form team to ensure coordinated support.

Assist the Director of Sixth Form in planning and supporting parents' information events and attending parents' evenings.

6. Administrative & Organisational Support



Provide administrative support to the Sixth Form Manager, including handling enquiries, maintaining email correspondence, and organising filing systems.

Produce letters, reports, minutes, meeting notes and standard communications.

Organise Sixth Form calendar events, activities, visits and speaker sessions.

Support the planning and coordination of student reviews, progress monitoring activities and Sixth Form operations.

Photocopy, catalogue and distribute documents and resources.

Maintain stock levels and oversee the distribution of supplies.

Operate ICT systems including Word, Excel, databases, spreadsheets and internet-based software.

Ensure compliance with policies relating to health and safety, security, data protection, equality and inclusion.

The postholder must comply with any reasonable request from a manager or Headteacher to undertake similar work.

As St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic College operates across two sites, the postholder may be required to work at either site.
