The post holder will provide a range of technical support for teaching and research programmes conducted by the Skills Unit and the HAU (Human Anatomy Unit). The post holder will organise and deliver the technical duties for the General Surgical Skills and Core Surgical Anatomy programmes, as well as support research projects, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching courses run by the General Skills Programme and HAU.
The post holder will support skill training at St. Mary's Hospital, Paterson Centre, as well as the anatomy unit with the preparation of prosections and embalming duties, and will also assist with the administrative duties of the Skills and Anatomy Units, including the administration of the statutory record keeping required by the Human Tissue Act and health and safety legislation. The successful applicant's time will be divided between the Paterson Skills Centre (3 days a week) and the Human Anatomy Unit (2 days a week), but this will be flexible depending on the needs of the Units.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful postholder will mainly have technical duties and administrative duties. Technical duties will include but are not exhaustive of assisting with the organisation, set up/down and supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate, external courses, research projects, students and visitors using the Skills Unit and HAU facilities. Assist with the management of the cleaning and maintenance of all Postgraduate Skills and HAU areas. Utilise technical knowledge and experience in own area to conceptualise, interpret and deliver the requirements of teaching staff. Contribute to the development of new or improved methods/techniques/equipment. Ensure that all Skills Programme and HAU areas and equipment are clean, maintained, serviced and repaired as required. Contribute to the development of new or improved methods/techniques/equipment.
Administrative Duties will focus on engaging trainers to teach on the Core Surgical and Skills Programmes, enforcement of HTA and H&S legislation, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with these regulations - ensure a safe working environment and assist with the administration and implementation of health and safety documents relating to all HAU matters including the provision of risk and COSHH assessments and other documentation, to ensure in house and statutory rules and regulations are up to date, understood and complied with. Assist with administration duties relating to the Skills Programme, Core Surgical Anatomy Programme and any other Skills Unit and HAU administration. Assist with the coordination of room bookings and the academic timetable. Assist with ordering duties and ensuring maintenance of stock requirements - equipment and consumables relating to undergraduate teaching and external courses.

Candidates/post holders will be expected to hold a qualification in (Anatomy/Biological Sciences) or equivalent vocational qualification or relevant laboratory-based experience. The candidate is also expected to have knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, knowledge of the protocols and processes associated with the receipt, processing, curation, and disposition of human anatomical donations for educational purposes, an understanding of human anatomy and Health and Safety Regulations and Legislation.
