based in the Midlands to join our team. As a Small Works Engineer you will be responsible for the installation, modification, and commissioning of fire safety systems across a variety of sites. Your work will contribute directly to the delivery of high-quality, compliant fire protection solutions for our clients.
Working within the Small Works team, you will handle planned minor installation projects, including the upgrade and extension of existing fire alarm systems, as well as smaller standalone installations. You'll be expected to ensure all work is completed to the highest standard and in line with relevant regulations and company procedures.
The role is mobile, primarily covering the Midlands, with occasional travel to surrounding areas. Projects will vary in size and complexity, requiring a flexible and proactive approach.

Oversee the end-to-end delivery of small works projects, including fire alarm installations, upgrades, and modifications--ensuring completion on time, within budget, and to a high standard, while assisting with quoting, planning, material procurement, labour allocation, and risk assessments
Manage small works engineers and subcontractors, ensuring effective resource planning, site supervision, and clear communication, while monitoring project progress and quality through site visits, documentation reviews, and proactive issue resolution
Maintain strong client relationships, acting as the main point of contact for all project-related matters, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded and that all activities align with health & safety regulations, industry standards, and company procedures
Support team development, mentoring junior engineers, identifying training needs, and ensuring accurate and timely completion of all project documentation, including job sheets, commissioning records, and client sign-off
Can you show experience in some of these areas?
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fire Alarm Systems or Electrical Installation, with BAFE SP203-1 certification (or working towards), FIA training across Fundamentals, Design, Installation, Maintenance, and Commissioning modules, plus 17th/18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), and relevant cards/certifications such as CSCS/ECS, IPAF, PASMA, Asbestos Awareness, Working at Height, and a full UK driving licence; SSSTS/SMSTS beneficial for leadership roles
Strong knowledge of BS 5839 Part 1, with the ability to install, modify, and commission addressable and conventional systems (e.g. Gent, Advanced, Kentec, Morley, C-Tec), including cable containment (tray, trunking, conduit) and general electrical works
Proficient in interpreting system designs, drawings, and technical specifications, with strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities, clear communication and client-facing skills, and competence in producing electronic job sheets, commissioning certificates, and as-fitted drawings
3-5 years' experience in fire alarm systems, ideally within small works or project roles, with a track record of installing, upgrading, and commissioning systems across commercial, industrial, and residential sites, while working independently or as part of a team
