Job Description

Wood Transmission and Distribution are recruiting for a Social Value Officer (SVO) based in Scotland, supporting several major electricity transmission schemes. The SVO will create and deliver a social value plan for the project, to benefit people in the region, creating a lasting impact.


The role requires regular visits to projects, groups and communities in the region to engage with locals and support the project teams. The SVO officer will work alongside our project teams and collaborative groups to align with our company & client goals and local community needs. The ideal candidate will lead with a community-focused approach, build trust, address concerns, and serve as an expert to deliver lasting results for the region.

Create and deliver a social value plan following the eight key principles to drive community projects and support project success. Lead hands-on community programs such as work experience, mentoring schemes and fundraising to engage locals and project teams. Represent Wood T&D at community events Arrange and chair meetings with community groups, SME's, educators, etc, to identify opportunities, assign resources, and deliver sustainable initiatives. Serve as an expert on community projects, advising on delivery, supporting funding applications, and creating resources like event materials or project summaries. Track and report on KPIs, sharing updates with senior management. Investigate and resolve major community concerns and assist with smaller ones to build community trust. Guide purchasing decisions to prioritise the use of local SME's to provide socio-economical benefits to the community. Visit project sites and communities in the region to monitor compliance, progress, and ensure quality outcomes. Train team members on community engagement best practices. Identify and manage risks to community project success, escalating issues to leadership.

Qualifications



IEMA Sustainability qualifications or equivalent (desirable) SV or SROI qualifications or equivalent (desirable) Membership to a recognised body such as Sustainability School, ISEP or Social Value UK or similar (desirable) Level 2 Maths and English Full UK Driving License.

Skills



Demonstrable experience in community engagement, sustainability, public relations, or related field Knowledge of North Scotland community needs and best practices for delivering benefits. Strong planning and organizational skills to deliver a social value plan. Organizational skills to manage community plans, track progress, and report results. MS Office or similar tools for documentation and reporting.
