Job Details

We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic Social Work Assistants to be a part of our Youth Intervention Service.

The Youth Intervention Service is a fast-paced and challenging role which involves the support of children, families and care-experienced young adults within a Children and Families, Aftercare and Justice framework. The role is suitable to someone who enjoys working with teenagers and young adults as this is a core function of the role, as is the ability to respond and support to a crisis.

A degree of flexibility with your working hours is essential and expected to meet the needs of the team and those we work with, which will include the delivery of targeted group interventions. newly formed, busy Enhanced Children and Families Teams.

This is a Fife-wide team based centrally in Glenrothes and will require travelling throughout the area and out with Fife on occasion.

The successful candidate will:
Be passionate about supporting children and young adults to reduce risk and improve outcomes in their lives. Be able to work on a 1:1 basis to provide individual support to children, their parents, caregivers and family members. Establish close & effective working relationships with colleagues across a range of services to provide support to children and young people, their families and caregivers. Be empathetic, understanding, creative and pro-active, with an ability to think out with the box to problem solve. Understand the impact of trauma and being committed to developing strengths in young people. Role and responsibilities: Case responsibility where assessment has been undertaken and deemed to be suitable allocation by Social Work Assistant for intervention and support Case responsibility for 16 / 17-year-olds who are not open to C&F or Justice for period of support where there are known offending behaviour risks Allocated SWA role to children and young people assessed as requiring more intensive intervention that allocated worker can provide, or where they need assistance due to needs of young person Representing Youth Intervention Service as a Court-based duty worker for children and young people appearing at Court Representing Youth Intervention Service in multi-agency meetings Delivery of targeted or structured accredited group work programmes. This will require some evening working Tasks requested by team manager or staff which may be one-off or short term Continued development of the Social Work Assistant role via group supervision

The Person

You will be skilled at building positive relationships and resilience in those you work with, work in collaboration with partners, e.g. Health Service, Education, Police and Voluntary Sector Agencies. You will be a supportive team player and work well independently; you will have strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong organisation and time-management abilities. You will have the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure and be willing to learn and engage in professional development. You will practice in a way that empowers others.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
