The Learning Disability Social Work Team is a well-established team of experienced Social Workers and Community Assessment Support Officers, delivering statutory social work interventions for adults of all ages with a Learning Disability. The team are committed to working collaboratively with partner agencies and community resources, to ensure people receive the right support from the right place at the right time. We are seeking qualified Social Workers who are passionate about adult social care, human rights and providing a high-quality service and is keen to develop their professional experience and knowledge.


We are looking for individuals who are passionate, flexible, creative, and who are committed to working alongside people with a Learning Disability and social care needs. We are a supportive team, and work closely with Health colleagues to deliver high-quality, strength-based and person-centred support. The team works in rights-based, person-centred way which promotes choice and skills development to support independence and wellbeing. Our teams work people to enable them to be independent, fulfilled and to live within their communities.

As a Kirklees Council Social Worker, you will be fully supported by a dedicated team to undertake these complex and demanding roles. We encourage sharing expertise through peer support forums which comprises both social care and health practitioners. The role will involve a blended approach to office and home working to meet the needs of the service and yourself. IT will be provided to ensure comfortable working environments both at home and in the office. What you will do:



As a Social Worker in the Learning Disability Team, you will be responsible for completing assessments under the Care Act 2014, undertaking holistic strength-based assessments and commissioning personalised support plans. You will carry out Mental Capacity Assessments, make Best Interest Decisions and complete Court work. You will be expected to provide a least restrictive and use strengths based approach to prevent, reduce and delay the need for formal social care services, and support people to remain in their own homes. You will provide an important and valued professional function working within a multi-disciplinary team. Your professional expertise and approach will ensure individual needs and aspirations are always supported, risk is effectively supported, and safeguarding is of paramount importance. You will be part of a dynamic, responsive and innovative team with varied tasks.
