Soil Sample Driver

RPS is recruiting Drivers in Northern Ireland who will form part of our team of Sample Collection/Quality Controllers, collecting soil samples from our large field-based soil sampling team. The positions will be offered as a fixed term contract of up to 6 months.

This project is part of the Soil Nutrient Health Scheme (SNHS), a four-year initiative aimed at improving soil nutrient health and estimating farm carbon stocks, right across Northern Ireland. The scheme will be delivered by AFBI and will see collection of soil samples taken from approximately 700,000 of Northern Ireland\'s agricultural fields.

Each driver will be part of the sample collection team led by an experienced field team leader and will be provided with a company vehicle. The driver is required to adhere to assigned routes and follow time schedules to collect samples from the field samplers throughout the sampling zone and return to base. The driver will be responsible for sample and data recording and handling including arranging daily collection of samples from soil samplers in the field, checking condition of sample bags; checking correct labelling of sample bags; checking recorded GPS tracks are correct, logging receipt of samples via a smart phone device and return samples daily to warehouse.

We are currently looking for drivers based in the Fermanagh or Tyrone areas. Hours of Work are Monday to Friday starting at 8.00am for a 40-hour contract.

Full training and support will be provided for the right candidates.

What you\'ll be doing

  • Arrange daily pickup of samples from soil samplers in the field working in coordination with the team leader.
  • Reviewing route sheets to establish your daily pickup and delivery schedule.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, ability to locate information and use GPS:
  • Plan and navigate daily routes to meet soil samplers and return all samples to warehouse before end of day.
  • Perform precise protocol in sample and data recording and handling.
  • Responsible for implementing Quality Control procedures.
  • Loading samples carefully to ensure sample integrity.
  • Delivery of samples between NI locations
  • Politely and effectively communicate with landowners if required.
Who we\'re looking for
  • Previous driving experience in a work environment including multi-drop driving experience.
  • Experience working to specified QC standards.
  • Comfortable using smart handheld scanning devices.
  • Happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Commitment to working safely with health and safety awareness
  • Good time keeping and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills:
  • Basic written, numeracy and IT skills
  • Full UK or Irish driving licence
