Role Purpose



The multi disciplinary Solutions Engineer - Defence & Nuclear Division will be responsible for driving N-ERGISE's expansion into two of the UK's most strategically important and regulated markets. Acting as both a technical lead and client interface, this individual will work with the clients engineering teams and organisations on specific problem statements to critical nuclear assets lifecycle to support the defining and resolving technical engineering solution from within the N-ERGISE offering while ensuring regulatory compliance with nuclear, def-stans, and apply defence-CADMID techniques.

The role requires an experienced professional with proven credibility in regulated industries bringing resolution, combining strong technical capability with commercial translation within a client-facing role using skills to orientate, converge solution for both client and N-ERGISE.

Key Responsibilities



Act as technical focal point for clients in the Defence and Nuclear sectors, particularly , new energy, and MoD facilities. Lead the preparation of technical pipeline, proposals, tenders, and pre-qualification submissions in line with sector requirements. Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with ONR nuclear standards, MoD/Defence standards (Def-Stan, JSP, AQAP), and client specifications. Translate complex client requirements into practical, cost-effective, and compliant engineered solutions. Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships across EDF, Sellafield Ltd, SMR/ AMar, MoD project partners, and Prime contractors. Support the development of N-ERGISE's long-term Defence and Nuclear growth strategy, reporting directly to the Managing Director. Promote a culture of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance within all projects.

Main Tasks



Attend client meetings at Nuclear sites such as Sizewell, MoD facilities, and other sites, representing N-ERGISE as a technical solutions partner. Review Defence and Nuclear client specifications and convert them into clear deliverables. Coordinate with internal teams to ensure project delivery is aligned with ONR and Defence requirements. Prepare supporting technical documentation (method statements, risk assessments, compliance reports). Conduct site assessments to scope requirements, design solutions, and oversee implementation. Liaise with approved supply chain partners to ensure compliance with sector standards. Monitor project progress, identifying and resolving technical or compliance issues. Contribute to workforce development, including security clearance requirements and nuclear competency training. Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and sustainable solutions across both sectors. Capture lessons learned and embed into continuous improvement programmes. Define key deliverable regulatory milestones. Resolve and align to translate regulatory conditions into safety case understanding and deliverables within the engineered solution, such as equipment qualification, and substantiation.

Person Specification:



Substantial experience in either Nuclear or Defence projects, ideally with exposure to Sizewell, Sellafield, MoD facilities, or Tier 1 defence contractors. Solid understanding of the major subcontracted services within Defence and Nuclear environments, such as: Test and Qualification - inherent understanding of hazards interpretation into an engineered component Inspection & NDT - asset integrity, weld testing, corrosion under insulation checks. Insulation (Thermal & Acoustic) - for process systems, turbine halls, marine vessels, and HVAC systems. Protective Coatings & Surface Preparation - corrosion protection, containment linings, fireproofing, and naval coatings. Scaffolding & Access Solutions - for outages, refits, dry docks, facility maintenance, and complex structures. Verification - QA/QC oversight, compliance to ONR, MoD, and industry standards, ensuring assurance through independent verification activities. Welding & Fabric Maintenance - structural steel, pipework, containment areas, and vessel repairs. Strong commercial awareness, including tendering and contract management. Proven ability to work credibly with senior stakeholders in highly regulated and secure environments. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Security clearance (or ability to obtain) for Defence projects is highly desirable. Based within the East of England, or able to work flexibly from another location with regular travel to Great Yarmouth and client sites.

Skills & Qualifications:



Degree or HND/HNC in an Engineering, Construction, or Technical discipline (e.g., Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or related). Equivalent industry experience will be considered. Recognised qualifications or training in Nuclear Safety, Defence Standards, or Quality Assurance would be advantageous. Knowledge of ONR and MoD regulatory frameworks (Def-Stan, JSP, AQAP). Project management qualifications (e.g., APM, PRINCE2) desirable but not essential. Evidence of ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) in technical, safety, or compliance areas.
