Spicer and Cole operate 4 busy cafes in Bristol, two in the city centre and two in the Clifton area. Over the past 12 years we have worked hard to elevate the everyday, with exceptional coffee, delicious food and welcoming service.
To further improve the quality and range of our food offering we have centralised our main food preparation activities within our Finzels Reach cafe kitchen. All our savoury food is freshly prepared here and distributed to our stores throughout the day with our environmentally friendly e-cargo bike.
We are now looking for a Sous Chef to help us run this facility, supporting the Kitchen Manager with all aspects of the operation, ensuring cleanliness and food safety & helping manage and support the team. Experience in a similar environment is essential so you will ideally have a some experience managing or helping manage a busy kitchen operation, ideally in the cafe/fast casual sector. We produce a lot of food in a relatively small kitchen within tight timeframes so you should be confident in your time keeping and your ability to work under pressure and keep a team motivated and on-track. This is daytime work, featuring flexible shifts: some early starts (5:30/6am) and some afternoon / early evening shifts. You will get some weekends off.
Further detail on the role:
Oversee all aspects of the kitchen on your Managers days off.
Work with your Manager and Kitchen Ops Director & owners to guarantee volume, quality and margin goals are hit each week
Support with training of all kitchen staff and monitor/appraise their performance
Manage food preparation and delivery schedules each day - either for your section or for the entire kitchen if your Manager is off
Help keep the team motivated and challenged
Maintain standards with respect to food safety and cleanliness
In return, we offer a competitive salary in the 28-30k bracket depending on experience. Uniform and staff meals provided.
