This is a rewarding and hands-on role supporting

two Year 3 pupils

with complex needs--one with global developmental delay and the other with autism--both based predominantly in a dedicated support unit.

The Setting

This mainstream primary school in Watford offers a specialist base provision designed to meet the needs of children requiring additional support outside the classroom.
The two pupils you'll be working with spend most of their time in the base unit, accessing a tailored curriculum with periods of reintegration into the main classroom.

The Role

This is not a standard TA role. We are looking for someone who can:

Support learners with

significant communication and cognitive needs

. Manage and de-escalate

challenging behaviours

with a calm and consistent approach. Deliver and assist with

structured interventions

such as Makaton, Bucket Time, sensory circuits, or Attention Autism. Provide

intimate care

where needed and promote independence with dignity. Work closely with SENCOs, therapists, and classroom teachers to ensure a holistic, child-centred approach.
Who You Are

You are someone with:

Proven experience working with children with

complex SEND

, ideally in base provision, ARP, PRU or specialist school settings. Confidence and resilience in managing behaviours and adapting strategies in real time. A patient, emotionally intelligent, and reflective mindset. Familiarity with or training in

Makaton, PECS, visual supports, sensory needs

or related communication systems (or a willingness to learn quickly).
