Are you calm, confident, and ready to make a real difference to young people with challenging behaviour and complex emotional needs?

A local alternative provision is seeking a Specialist Teaching & Learning Assistant to join a highly supportive team. This is a dynamic role working with pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 who have been permanently excluded or who are unable to attend mainstream education.

You'll be key to creating positive change, supporting learning in the classroom, out in the community, and sometimes in the pupil's home. No two days look the same.

What You'll Be Doing:



Supporting Learning:

Work 1:1, in small groups, or with whole classes, helping pupils access the curriculum, complete work, and make progress socially and academically

Behaviour & Pastoral Support:

Build strong relationships, de-escalate when needed, promote positive behaviour, and act as a trusted adult for pupils with complex needs

Leading & Delivering Sessions:

Step in to deliver planned work during teacher absence, support with resource prep, and occasionally plan short sessions or group activities

Beyond the Classroom:

Join pupils on trips and activities (including Duke of Edinburgh), complete safe & well home visits, provide transport where needed, and cover corridor, break, and lunch duties

Record Keeping & Collaboration:

Help update pupil plans, assessments, and records; communicate with parents and staff teams; support displays, classroom organisation, and safeguarding duties

Promoting Independence:

Encourage ownership of learning, build confidence, and help pupils move towards self-regulation and success inside and outside school

Flex with the Flow:

Adapt to changing timetables, contribute across the site, and pitch in where the team, and pupils need you most

What You'll Need:



Full UK driving licence + access to your own insured car GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English Experience working with young people exhibiting challenging behaviour A positive, resilient, team-focused attitude Knowledge of safegauarding and behaviour management techniques Flexibility and confidence to work in a variety of settings; classroom, off-site, or at home

What's Desirable (But Not Essential):



Team Teach or behaviour management training First Aid certificate Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, or SEMH setting Confident delivering academic sessions independently Previous involvement in sports/PE or outdoor learning

Pay: 90.00-110.00 per day
