The Role
In this hands-on support role, you'll work closely with teachers and the school's Speech and Language Therapist to help pupils develop key communication and social skills. You'll support children using tools such as
PECS, Makaton, visual timetables
, and other alternative communication strategies.
You'll be part of a nurturing, team-oriented environment that focuses on small-group and 1:1 support--ideal for pupils who benefit from structure, patience, and consistency.
What You'll Be Doing
Supporting children aged 4-16 with speech, language, and communication needs
Helping pupils express themselves through non-verbal and supported communication tools
Following personalised strategies created by therapy and teaching staff
Encouraging social interaction, independence, and confidence
Creating calm, predictable routines that help children feel secure and ready to learn
Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to track progress and share insights
Supporting classroom engagement and emotional regulation
Who This Role is Ideal For

graduate in Psychology, Education, Speech & Language
, or related fields
A
parent or carer
with lived experience of speech and language needs

teaching assistant or support worker
with experience in SEN or communication support

therapy, teaching, or child development

About the School:
Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do, and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such, we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
