To work under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff, to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.
ROLE PURPOSE
a)
To work as the Speech and Language Teaching Assistant at Combe Pafford School
To work in partnership with SALT Services to meet the needs of individual children
To organise and run speech and language sessions for individuals and groups
To liaise with teaching staff and LSAs to promote SALT programmes
To monitor and evaluate impact of SALT work at CPS
To plan and run parent information workshops and assist in staff training
To develop knowledge and skills regarding speech and language development in children
b)
To work with supervision and support to independently manage a caseload of children with SLCN.
To develop knowledge of the development of speech and language and communication skills and areas of breakdown or deficit/disorder.
To provide a school SALT service and undertake assessment, diagnosis and treatment programme of children with speech and language difficulties
To plan, develop and deliver small individual and small group work sessions making the best use of the available time, to enable each child to make progress.
To monitor, evaluate and keep records of children' progress.
To write reports with advice and practical strategies to staff, and other key adults, and encourage them to be proactively involved
To develop the skills to motivate children to engage and persevere with the process
To participate in the training of school staff around speech and language development to enable staff to work one-to-one and with group intervention
To liaise with other professionals and participate in multidisciplinary groups
To design and make resources as needed
To develop working relationships with parents/carers/families to enable them to continue the therapy at home
To write reports and keep records and undertake general clerical work in line with the job description responsibilities.
Attending meetings with external professionals from a range of agencies.
Carry out other duties as directed by Line Manager
c)
