The Role
We are looking for an engaging and resilient
Sports Mentor
to deliver alternative education sessions across schools and in our community hub. This unique role blends physical activity with mentoring and personal development, supporting young people who may struggle in traditional educational settings.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver structured, sport-based mentoring sessions to young people in schools and/or at our hub
Use sport as a tool to teach key life skills such as teamwork, resilience, communication, and discipline
Build trusting, positive relationships with young people, offering one-to-one and small group support
Track progress, record outcomes, and contribute to reports and evaluations
Work closely with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure a joined-up approach
Identify and manage behavioural or emotional challenges with sensitivity and professionalism
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants
Support wider community programmes and events as needed
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Passionate about working with young people and making a difference
Experienced in coaching, mentoring, or youth work
Confident delivering structured sessions that balance physical activity and personal development
Able to manage challenging behaviour with empathy and consistency
A strong communicator, both with young people and professionals
Organised, reliable, and reflective in your practice
Essential:
Experience working with young people in education, sport, or youth settings
Relevant coaching, youth work, or mentoring qualifications
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to travel between school sites and the hub
Desirable:
Experience in alternative provision, SEN, or behavioural support
Understanding of trauma-informed practice or mental health awareness
Safeguarding and First Aid training (can be provided)
