Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic
Sprayer's Mate
to support the Spray Shop team in preparing and finishing a wide range of high-quality bespoke items, primarily using wood, but also including glass and acrylic substrates. This hands-on role will involve surface preparation, masking, sanding, cleaning, and assisting the Lead Sprayer in delivering premium-quality sprayed finishes to customer specifications.
The successful candidate will have some practical woodworking experience, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. A key part of this role involves supporting an organised, clean, and efficient workspace -- therefore, a willingness to embrace and implement
LEAN manufacturing principles
is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation & Finishing
Assist with preparation of wooden, acrylic, and glass components for spraying (filling, sanding, masking)
Maintain a clean, dust-free environment for finishing operations
Support in mixing materials and setting up spray equipment under supervision
Move items through the spray shop process with care and efficiency
Woodworking Support
Carry out minor woodworking tasks such as de-nibbing, edge sanding, or assembly prep
Understand the basic characteristics of various timber species and wood sheet products
Quality Control
Inspect work at each stage to ensure surfaces are spray-ready
Assist in quality-checking finished parts for defects or inconsistencies
Health & Safety
Follow safety protocols and PPE requirements
Report hazards, spills, or faulty equipment promptly
Help store and handle paints and lacquers safely
Housekeeping & Organisation
Keep work areas tidy and organised
Maintain spray shop consumables and follow LEAN practices
Team Support & Communication
Collaborate with the Lead Sprayer and production team
Communicate job progress and concerns clearly

Basic woodworking skills (sanding, assembly prep, material handling)

Qualifications & Experience
Experience in a workshop, joinery, or production environment preferred
Exposure to wood finishing or spraying processes desirable
Familiarity with sanding, extraction, and hand tools
Basic knowledge of surface prep for wood, glass, and acrylic
Forklift/material handling experience advantageous but not essential
