The Role



United Learning are one of the three organisations part of the consortia delivering the Department for Education (DfE) funded Sustainability Support for Education (SSfE) website. It has been built in collaboration by three organisations: TPXImpact, Blue Marble and United Learning.



SSfE is a free website for everyone in the education sector seeking to improve their educational setting's environmental sustainability. It curates high-quality materials and offers clear actions to help educational settings develop their climate action plans. It first went live in May 2024 and as of July 2025, SSfE has grown to over 3,000 registered users -- and we're just getting started!



We are now seeking a motivated and strategic Communications Officer to help us grow SSfE's reach and embed it further into the education sector's climate action efforts.



This role will be responsible for raising awareness of SSfE and driving users to the website. You will own the communications strategy and be responsible for delivery of all marketing and communications activities. You will be responsible for liaising with key partners and stakeholders to maximise our reach, including resource providers and the DfE, and for engaging directly with users through events and webinars.



The SSfE website operates within a broader ecosystem of organisations supporting sustainability in education, including our key partner programmes: Let's Go Zero, Climate Ambassadors, and the National Education Nature Park (NENP). A key part of this role will involve deepening our collaboration with these 'sister' organisations, aligning communications efforts, and contributing to a unified voice for climate action in education.


About You

Core skills and attributes:


Experience in developing and delivering effective communications strategies SEO / GEO Copywriting and newsletter production Social media management, and experience in creating and curating impactful, channel appropriate content Strong data analysis skills PPC and display advertising Strong written and oral communication, including presentation skills Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders An intellectual curiosity, openness to learning and ability to innovate to achieve results

Desirable
Knowledge / experience of the education sector Knowledge/experience in climate action

The individual needs to be able to work reasonably autonomously. They will also:
Report to the United Learning sustainability team. Work closely with the wider project team from TPXImpact and Blue Marble. Work collaboratively with comms leads from the other 'sister projects' (Let's Go Zero, Climate Ambassadors and NENP) to ensure aligned messaging and amplify collective impact. Receive support from our Director of Marketing or other senior marketing staff as appropriate. Benefit from networking and CPD opportunities with the United Learning central marketing team. The post-holder will be required to work in the London office two days a week (to overlap with the sustainability team, Wednesday and Thursday). Occasional travel to other locations in England will also be required.

We are looking to hire this role as soon as possible. The advert will close 2 weeks after publication. This contract is offered on a 22.5 hours per week on a fixed term basis until 30th April 2027.
