We are a leading steel stockholder supplying structural steel, plate, and related products across Northern Ireland and the UK. We are seeking an experienced
Steel Warehouse Supervisor
to oversee day-to-day warehouse and yard operations. The successful candidate will lead a team of steel handlers and machine operators to ensure safe, efficient handling, storage, and dispatch of steel products while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Supervision
Supervise daily yard and warehouse activities, ensuring all steel handling, loading, and unloading operations are completed safely and efficiently.
Plan and allocate work to steel handlers, forklift and crane operators to meet delivery schedules and production deadlines.
Oversee order picking, cutting list preparation, and stock movements to ensure accuracy and timely dispatch.
Coordinate with transport and sales departments to prioritise customer orders and deliveries.
Ensure all materials are stored in designated areas and that stock is well organised and traceable.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Lead by example in promoting a strong
safety culture
across the team.
Conduct and document daily safety checks on cranes, forklifts, and lifting equipment.
Ensure team adherence to company safety policies, PPE requirements, and manual handling procedures.
Report and investigate near-misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
Team Leadership & Development
Motivate, train, and mentor warehouse staff to develop their skills and maintain high performance standards.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and performance reviews.
Manage attendance, discipline, and workload planning within the team.
Quality & Administration
Ensure all materials are handled carefully to prevent damage and maintain product quality.
Check and sign off delivery notes, dispatch paperwork, and stock records.
Support stock control activities including stock counts, reconciliations, and inventory accuracy.
Liaise with the Operations Manager on process improvements and resource requirements.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Essential Criteria
Minimum 3 years experience in a steel stockholding, fabrication, or heavy industrial warehouse environment.
Previous experience in a
supervisory or team leader role
.
Proficient in safe operation of
overhead cranes
and
forklifts
(valid tickets preferred).
Strong understanding of
health & safety regulations
and lifting operations (LOLER/PUWER awareness).
Good communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Ability to read and interpret steel orders, cutting lists, and delivery documentation.
Desirable Criteria
IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent safety qualification.
Experience in lean warehouse operations or continuous improvement initiatives.
