Job Description

About Us:

Novus is a boutique consulting firm specialising in digital transformation and strategy for the home-buying industry. Our expertise includes supporting companies in leveraging digital technology, challenging the status quo, and building high-performing businesses. Our clients are at the forefront of innovation, utilising your expertise to influence major developments within the UK Home Buying Journey. You will be working on an exciting product, alongside highly skilled engineers to build and deliver an industry-groundbreaking platform.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Consultant to support strategic transformation programmes across the UK home-buying and mortgage ecosystem, with a specific focus on journey redesign, ecosystem alignment, data-driven innovation, and Horizontal Digital Integration (HDI).

This role combines deep analytical capability with strong consulting craft, allowing you to turn complexity and ambiguity into clear strategy, compelling narratives, and executable workstreams.

You will work closely with lenders, conveyancers, technology partners, data providers, and industry bodies to diagnose end-to-end friction, define strategic opportunities, evaluate vendors, and support the delivery of a prioritised roadmap that accelerates speed, certainty, and customer outcomes across the home-buying journey.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of market change -- shaping how major financial institutions modernise their home-buying propositions through data, interoperability, and AI-enabled experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Discovery & Insight Development

Support end-to-end discovery across the home-buying and remortgage journey, surfacing friction, inefficiencies, and risks. Conduct interviews, workshops, and SME sessions to identify pain points and simplification opportunities. Map as-is journeys, hand-offs, re-keying points, and operational bottlenecks across pre-submission, post-offer, completion, and ownership. Analyse qualitative and quantitative insights to shape strategic conclusions and recommendations.
2. Journey Mapping & Operating Model Design

Develop current-state and future-state journeys that reflect both customer and operational needs. Identify opportunities to reduce time to completion, improve certainty, and streamline cross-party interactions. Work with cross-functional teams to define the roles, processes, and data flows required for a simplified operating model. Support the articulation of a North Star vision for HDI-enabled home buying.
3. HDI, Data & AI Strategy Support

Contribute to the definition of the lender's HDI strategy, participation model, and partnering approach. Analyse where interoperability, Smart Data, and emerging data standards (OPDA/PDTF) unlock value. Support thinking on how AI/automation can improve speed, certainty, compliance, and customer experience. Shape requirements for future data flows, integrations, and shared ecosystem capabilities.
4. Vendor & Partner Landscape Assessment

Analyse the external ecosystem: digital ID, KYC, case management, notarisation, conveyancing platforms, data providers, orchestration/HDI layers. Contribute to partner evaluation frameworks and shortlisting criteria. Assess buy vs build vs partner options for core capabilities. Support preparation of market scans and partner engagement material.
5. Roadmapping, Prioritisation & Value Modelling

Support the creation of a prioritised roadmap that aligns with strategic pillars (growth, speed, simplification, risk). Build value models and business cases for recommended initiatives, quantifying both commercial and operational impact. Help shape clear Now / Next / Later workstreams aligned to organisational ambition. Ensure recommendations balance desirability, feasibility, regulatory constraints, and cost-to-serve.
6. Delivery Enablement & Governance

Contribute to weekly working groups, SME forums, and steering packs with clear artefacts and structured insight. Translate strategy into actionable workstreams, milestones, and stakeholder ownership. Prepare high-quality PowerPoint outputs that communicate narrative, logic, and recommendations clearly. Support alignment across product, data, operations, risk, compliance, and transformation teams.
7. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

Work confidently with senior stakeholders across product, transformation, operations, and risk. Facilitate collaborative workshops that drive alignment and unlock decisions. Maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external partners across the ecosystem. Communicate difficult insights with clarity, tact, and "uncompromising truth."

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Strategic & Analytical Skills

Skilled in discovery, insight generation, and structured problem solving. Strong experience in journey mapping and service design. Ability to synthesise complex information into clear recommendations. Competence in value modelling, business case creation, and prioritisation frameworks.
Technology, Data & AI Literacy

Understanding of HDI concepts and why interoperability matters. Ability to talk credibly about data flows, integrations, and emerging data standards. Awareness of AI and automation use cases in lending and conveyancing.
Consulting & Communication Skills

Strong facilitation, workshop leadership, and client interaction capability. Exceptional slide writing, narrative structuring, and story building. Ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate in cross-functional environments.
Domain Expertise

An understanding of the UK home-buying, remortgage, and conveyancing journey is a positive. Familiarity with lender operations, property data, and third-party ecosystems also a benefit.
Behavioural Fit (Novus DNA)

Bold, curious, and creative problem-solver. "Uncompromising truth" - able to challenge constructively. Oriented to measurable impact, not activity. Low ego, collaborative, and able to integrate into multi-party teams. Practitioner mindset - hands-on, proactive, and delivery-focused.

Qualifications and Experience:

3-7 years' experience in consulting, strategy, service design, or transformation. Experience in home buying, mortgages, financial services, conveyancing, or PropTech advantageous. Strong background in structured problem solving and executive communication. Experience delivering discovery and strategy work in complex, regulated environments. Degree in Business, Economics, Technology, or related field useful.
